I think the 165r15's that everyone used to run are about 24" tall, so a 26" tire ought to look fine... if looks are what you're after.
Back in the old foot-braking days, we used front tire diameter as a means to getting a good reaction time once we found our "spot" on the tree - and fine tuned it with tire pressure.
I still have 165r15's on the front of the Chevelle - and now that it's a street car again, I don't like how small they are in contrast to the 275/60's on the rear. If I stick with 15" rims, I'll probably go with a 235/60 on the front, so they're only a couple inches smaller than the rear tires.

Its more about stance and how the tire wheel combination fills the fender wells IMHO. I ran 315/60/15's and 4.5"x26"/17's as race rubber and local cruise stuff last year. Hoosier drag radials and M&H bias ply front runners. That don't mix radial and bias plys stuff is nonsense in my experience. I have the 17' wheels to clear the big brakes when I have them on the front.
Longer drives 295/45/18's and 275/40/18's up front both Nitto NT05's. I have no idea what fits in your car, but more sidewall/height does equal more potential for hook with a longer contact patch.Drag Week 2006 & 2012 - Winner Street Race Big Block Naturally Aspirated - R/U 2007 Broke DW '05 and Drag Weekend '15 Coincidence?
