    Just sitting here wondering what it take t reverse the operating direction of an engine.Do you need to get a different cam . What all does it take.

        Cam and timing set. (two gears like a straight 6)
        Some need a dizzy some only a gear swap on the dizzy.

          Depends on the motor. Ones with a crank driven oil pump like an L36/67 or a lot of other late model motors wouldn't work at all without an external oil pump.

          If you swapped the timing gear with no idler or got rid of a chain and went straight gears it would work with a standard distributor. If you kept the chain you'd have to reverse the bevel on both the cam and the distributor to get it to to rotate conventionally which I could only see the purpose of is to drive the oil pump.

            Many of the later models do not run reversed motors anyway.
            Many reverse in the trans or outdrive.

            When we ran offshore both motor where std rotation.
            We changed directions in the drives and ran counter rot. props.
