  • TH 350 front pump input

so my tranny stopped pulling any gear. shifted awesome til she went south. fire the engine up, rev it, no gears, and no fluid pumping with the line loose.

i picked up another th350 for,, for $40. long story.

on advice saying the front pump is beat,...i pulled the new / used one today. it looks great, but the big o-rings/seals need new. any help? part numbers, etc? suggestions?

looks brand new inside. i put a shift kit in it 2 + years ago, but its too short for my application.

just wanna change the pump on my 9" tailshaft version.

    wanna do it right once.

    using the cheap jegs/summit 10" converter/ 3,500 stall.

    tranny cooler.

    shift kit.

    z-gate.

    blah, blah.

are these parts i can get at the local parts store?

    thank you BS family.

My first suggestion would normally be to befriend a transmission rebuilder but I know a guy who is having troubles with the transmission rebuilder he befriended. Confused yet?

Seriously though, a rebuilder might have what you want without having to buy a whole kit. Might be able to find a listing at O'Reilly or AutoZone. Good luck finding a parts man these days that understands what you are trying to do.

AZ is a lost kingdom of endless pages.

Ya know, it could have been the converter taking a crap that caused it to stop working. If you pulled the pump halves apart and the gears aren't broken and the two lugs are there, check your converter. Those seals are usually reusable, if you can get the gasket behind the pump off in one piece it could be too. Usually it's the seal around the converter that leaks when mine sit for a while.

Joe, did it ever pull with the new converter?

I know you're gonna say it's a lot of work just for shits & grins, but I'd almost be willing, if it was mine...., to put the old converter back in to see if it'll pull. If it does you could rule out the pump. If it isn't the pump and you change the pump, it'll have to come back out anyway. Wouldn't be the first time I've seen new parts that didn't work.

yes,....the new convereter worked fine . footbrake stalled to 3,200-3,500RPMs.

the problem was a about a year old.

she fell in and out of gear.

a mean shifting tranny for about 8-10 years.

                  converter shimmed properly.

                  i guess i'll google?

thought somebody might have a tip?

                  oh well,.....tis the season,....

i'll get my junk kickin azz soon.

i thank you guys for the links.

my lazy fault for not looking.

did i mention i know nothing about trannys?

                        well,......next to nothing.

been 20 years since i pulled a pump.

                        i need a serious answer:
isnt there a certain sealer that holds up to ATF?
                        for real.
i am getting the gaskets, but just want to know the sealer.

                        well,.....i'm a cheap phuker,.........

big fan of low dollar rebuilds.

i know it sounds stupid, but i've heard of builders using a sealer to ensure no leaks.

my tranny has been rebuilt at least once, supposovely dyno'ed, and every time i go in it theres no o-rings. a few rebuilders have told me thats a cheap / bad practice, but it does work.

i'm still getting new o-rings, just thought maybe a coat of sealer might be good insurance? not a lot, like plugging up the filter, etc.

heres an example, but i was told its orange, and thats what they used on mine.
