  • Interpretting GM Timing Tables

Trying to better match my timing to my engine and got ahold of what is supposed to be the timing tables from an NA 3.8L Buick V6. However the LV8 axis label has me thrown for a loop vs. the L67 computer's Cylinder Air Mass (g/cyl). Anyone have any idea what LV8 is? Was told it's load but nothing further.

Wild guess, but I suspect that it's a scale of mass air flow divided by the theoretical maximum air flow at that RPM, then scaled so that 256 is the maximum air flow. Or possibly MAP sensor reading scaled as a 8 bit value.

Assuming it means the same thing as the later table I extrapolated it fit the same span and boy am I off! That timing table has 50º in large sections while the original map had a max of 35º. My engine since it will have a turbo when I can afford one even has a point lower compression. No wonder the engine runs like a dog and won't rev!
