  • LS2 Coil Dwell Time

Howdy folks. After a long day working in the yard I decided to push my brain with some circuit design for an ignition system adapter box to allow my wasted spark DIS system to control some LS2 type coils. Basically it just kills the DC power to the coils when it's not that coils turn in halfs of the firing order. The one concern is the L67 runs its coils with a 25ms dwell time while the LS2 coils seems to want to max out at 4.5ms. As best I know I can't knock the dwell time down in the computer so I'm kinda stuck with it. Don't want to try to compensate for it either with a timer circuit but guess I could.

Obviously that's 5x longer to just build heat as they aren't getting any more energy after that time. Any reason I can't run them at 25ms dwell or am I going to kill them quickly? Any tricks you could play with supply to change the charge time?

    Thanks

Looking at the data from Megasquirt might have mislead me about the dwell time. It seems like the D585 coils can be "self protecting" and discharge early but it seems like the stock 3800 ICM has run the coils successfully: https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3065. I found some references to some digging I did in the past that said the stock ICM will dwell the coils less than at least the IGN1A's liked. (https://www.bangshift.com/forum/foru...s-and-trickery)

Sounds like I should just plan on building an adjustable power supply into the module so I can dial the charge voltage to the coils.
