got problems

  • got problems

    went for drive , under boost it breaks up, i would not call it a missfire feels more like 2step
    ck datalogs out of 5 datalogs 1 shows 5 random rpm spikes 8 to 11000 rpm
    it`s still rich10-1 is this some of my problem?
    tried to reset switches for vr but megatune shows no rpm?
    wtf?

    OK, so we just went through this on Bill and Brian's cars. Both ended up with different issues. If you can email me a datalog, would help, but I am going to guess that this will help:

    First, try using "Opto-In" for your tach input. Your sensor is oriented the same as Brians, and he was able to get around the strange RPm limit by running Opto-In, and just letting "Tach In" hang free (not grounded, not powered). DIP switches 1-1, 1-6.


    Try that first.


    If that doesn't work, you might have a lot of voltage spikes, like Bill did, the next step is to use VR input. But to do that, takes some adjustments under the lid:

    R21 and R28 are labelled potentiometers on the circuit board. They adjust the hysterisis, and "zero crossing" of the VR input.
    -turn R21 1.5 turns to the right
    -turn R28 2.0-2.5 turns to the right
    -set DIP switches 1-1, 1-4, 1-7 on(down)
    -use TachIn as your "Crank Sensor input"
    -play with grounding, or not, the "Opto-In"


    one of these will likely fix it, there's something about these newer "replacement" crank sensors that's been eluding us.

        1-1 always.

        1-2 for the "opto-in" (no pullups).

          I look forward to the day when we have identified a sensor, the Hamlin perhaps, that will allow all of us to have a "for sure" setup so we can go right to the tuning. Its fun on the bleeding edge, messy, but fun.

          I broke another rocker arm tonight going to the gas station but nothing else was hurt so off to the track we go.

            thanks for the help Scott
            i think i got senor noise fixed, had use tach in and adj r21 1.5t and r28 2 t and ground opto in
            I can see a big difference in cranking and idle quality

              The powerstroke worked well for me. I sent one to Shannon Clark but he couldn't get it to fit on his car. He went with the Hamlin and was happy. Do you have a source or website that has the Hamlin? What was its cost.

                    Thanks guys.

                    We should start a thread of common sensors that we can use. I think it would be really useful. It'd be nice to be able to go to the parts store and go: Need an 02 sensor for a 00-04 VW 1.8t, a CAMP for a 98 Ford Powerstroke diesel, a water temp sensor from a ...

                      Scott how did you like this senor compaired to Chevy 5.3 sensor?i`ve had one for couple weeks just have not built a bracket for it yet
                      i`m still having some very intermention spikes

                        The *one* time I used it was with an Escort EDIS wheel, and it worked great - it was very sensitive to air gap, but it was easy to find the "working" distance, which was .036" for us. This engine only runs to 5000rpm though, so I haven't personally seen it spin 8000rpm but it's rated for a very high frequency which means it should work fine for your application.

                        Got any datalogs I can look at? Might be worth doing before you swap sensors.

                            for everyone else reading: he had really clean datalogs with no loss of tach signal or anything other than what looks like spark blowout. His alternator is charging strong, and system voltage stays within a couple tenths of a volt. So, it seems like he's done a fine installation, just needs to work out a few external bugs,
