one major difference between a distributor, and multiple coil packs, is that the distributor only allows ~50* range of ignition timing in each cylinder, but individual coils can spark a mixture anytime they want - so if your EMS is triggering falsely, it'll get out of sync with the engine and spark at random times. Not good, which is why it's so important to find a crankshaft trigger wheel, sensor, and EMS, (and alternator, and wiring quality, etc., etc.) that work together happily!
