Its been almost 6 years since MS2 came out and yet MS1 seems to still have an audience, curious what the attraction is?
Cost.. ?
Simple! It has more "experience"
A lot of MS guys ask me why I still have people using EMS-pro, on MS1-Extra. I say "same reasoning MoTec is using hardware and firmware that's 10+ years old. Because it's been tested and works!"
Most MS guys like yourself, are out there on the cutting edge. You have the skills to experiment, and succeed!! But, many of the "newcomers" to MS aren't really interested in learning something new - they're focused on the WHOLE car, with lots more to worry about than if their Ignitor transistor is up to the task, etc. - these people simply want something they can trust, and implement as easily as possible.
Hence, what seems like "old" to you, is simply something that's "more common" to them.
That, and MS2 has been sorely lacking in enough inputs and outputs to support all the features MS1-Extra was able to support all at once. It's getting there, though!

I originally had no intention of controlling timing on the T-bird so I got an MS1. The Skylark I wanted an IAC other than HI/LOW plus timing control so I got the MSII for it.
On the T-bird now I want to control timing, as it's kinda nice when going to lower elevation I can just load a "Low Elevation" tune and go. Or perhaps I'll test out a knock sensor on the T-bird.......
Guess I ignored MS1 extra as its roots were at the time mired in 4 banger app's
4-banger apps?
both the development cars were v8s; parish ran it on his v8 LS; the only limitations were the types of triggering inputs it supported. It still allowed (allows) for more simultaneous features than MS2-x, so... not really.
