What car(s) have you done and how were your results?

What systems are or have used?

In the middle of an L67 EFI system on an LC2 in a '64 Riviera... if all goes well will have reports with no turbo late late this month.

      Re: EFI conversions

The Ranger has gone thru several phases:

      1. Original 2.9L EFI (speed density)
      2. Switched it to 2.9L Mass Air computer & turbo
      3. Swapped in 5.0L & '88 F150 Speed density computer
      4. Swapped in 545 using a Megasquirt and an EEC-IV adapter board.

          Re: EFI conversions

          Carb to EFI conversions:

My 1966 Dodge Dart. EFI drove better before tuning than it did with a (badly butchered) Holley but there were a lot of issues with my homemade turbo setup. Now busy replacing that with a less ghetto turbo setup.

EFI computer swaps on an already injected car:

Two separate swaps on a 2.3 liter Mustang to test out various bits of hardware. Drove pretty well but was not fully tuned.

One 1.9 liter Ford Escort being set up as a rally beater. Ran pretty well.

One nitrous-fed Yugo for the Grassroots Motorsports $2007 Challenge. Ran into some unexpected issues, some involving the EFI and some not.

          One project still under wraps...

All done with Megasquirt or its relatives.

It hasn't moved. There was a foreign object in cyl #4 and it cracked a cylinder wall. But while it did run, it was freakin' scary.

Just got my Centurion up and running, so the T-bird on the cheap TBI install should begin soon, so I'm in the same boat as CTX-SLPR.
                Escaped on a technicality.

                  Re: EFI conversions

did a couple 10-15 years ago.

Truck 302 into a 56 ford truck for a guy, all stock, took the stock harness apart and made it work. Owner liked it, great mileage, didn't look as nice under the hood as the early 302 he had in it before, though.

86 vette engine into a 69 vette, to replace the wrong 350 that was in the car, lots of harness building and not much money (did this with/for a friend), used a junkyard V6 harness and the remains of the vette harness that had been cut off way too short. converted to a later model 7727 (?) computer and bought the 16151348 prom from GM, it worked ok. Had to build a 30 Hz (?) oscillator to defeat the VAT. Owner really liked it. Too bad he died a couple years ago.

                    Re: EFI conversions

Did a couple street rod conversions in 93/94/95.

Mostly stock harness, ECM, and engine/trans conversion stuff. Used complete harness sets with all the inputs, fooling whatever was necessary to make the ECM work correctly (like Pass-key), and some A/C and P/S inputs (for correct a/c idle).

Messed with an MS that was already installed last yr. Seemed easy enough to "play" around and get good driveability. Setting the start-ups was the worse thing.

Thats why I got involved. The owner couldn't get the initial settings (#'s) close enough to run. I just used some "normal" injector duration and timing #'s and guessed at some things, till it ran.
Once that was overcome. It was easy. I still don't know what some functions are/were....but it ran great, and the A/F ratios were much better than a carb will EVER be.

BUT, I haven't installed one completely (going to in late July), or set-up the initial stuff on an MS yet.........

The wiring seems simple enough. It the "computer" stuff that may cause me problems..............We'll see.........

                        Re: EFI conversions

Just did a 5.0 Mustang harness and computer into an 89 F150. I don't think I will ever try that again. Biggest pain in the butt tryin' to get the car harness integrated into the truck. Truck used a harness that was integrated into the whole front end of the truck. The car harness was more of a separate harness setup. Cool if you have lots of time, wiring diagrams, and no cash. If you got the cash, a prebuilt harness is the way to go.

It does take a certain type of macochistic personality to enjoy working with harnesses like that.

                          (bad bad pun.....)
