  • El Cheapo Injector Bungs

This is a project I started many years ago that never really came to fruition. I ended up selling the vehicle and this manifold has been sitting on a shelf ever since. I though you fellas might enjoy some Carjunkie ingenuity. I did this because bungs were stupid expensive at the time.

    ;D

Believe it or not, they are dang near the perfect size and the lower O-ring fits nice and snug in there.

Thinking outside the box. A quality I admire!

What are those brass fittings exactly?

What were you going to mount the fuel rails to?

Necessity is most certainly not the mother of invention....

      Cheapness is.

      ;D

A compression fitting of some sort. I just went to Lowe's with an injector and started looking thru the brass stuff.

Rail mounting? The idea then was to use a tall carb spacer (2"), and make a bracket off the carb studs to retain the rail.

they look like compression fittings for 1/2 soft copper line about 9/16 OD injector needs 14 mm hole(close enough)
        nice low tec solution!

what fuel rail is that in the pics? how accurate did the holes for the bungs need to be - is there any tolerance for slight misalignment?

                Dodge Magnum 5.2/5.9L fuel rail.

Tolerance? LOL I just lined up the injector tips and marked the holes with a Sharpie. :D

The pointier the sharpie, the closer the tolerance, right? ;D

I am digging that manifold. Do you ever consider using it in something? I bet it works just fine!

                        Re: El Cheapo Injector Bungs

I have sold off most of my SBM stuff.

This was intended to go on a 273 in my '68 Coronet I used to own. I got the manifold for free and the 'bungs' were cheap at the time, so I basically had an EFI capable manifold for less than $20. I had a Megasquirt I built for it, but I never finished the project. Sold that MS, and built another later on for the big motor.

Might play with it if I ever get another Dodge. Kinda stuck in a Ford phase right now.
