If I am a spectator this year I hope to follow along with a go pro one forward and backwards... Also will get lots of pic and would like to stay at each track for the full day... Being in the event seem like we were getting are couple passes and then getting on the road... This would be a much more lay back week... Although still wondering if a non passenger can pay the $50 and be a second driver for the week

Our plan is to get pre-registered. If that doesn't happen, get on the wait list. If that doesn't work out, show up on registration day and try to get in. If that doesn't work out, we'll park the truck and trailer and follow along in the Firebird as wanna-be's....

That, sir, is one damn fine plan!

Dad thought about leaving a little bit earlier and heading down the road and parking on the route some where and watching you guys roll by. That might be a good idea too.
I believe that last year HR published the route. I would expect them to do that again this year. So following the route or waiting at a check-point should be no problem.

Last year ( 14 ) my sister rode out to Ok with me in my truck. My co-pilot flew out and met us at the hotel. the entire week, my sister would hang out in the pits , but as soon as we started to pack, she would leave. we wouldnt see her till she met us in the hotel parking lot with cold beers! I have no chance of winning, but I care way to much about drag week as well as the friends I made to do anything that is not with in the spirit of the rules.

my dad has followed along the last 3 years in his own car. I think the most he did to help my brother and I is handing us a few tools while we were under the car. I can tell he's dying to get in there though! the honor system works with 99% of the people at drag week so far. we (my dad, brother, and I) have been pretty careful not to let dad do so much as help pack and unpack the car. matter of fact, I got a ride to a parts store from a local in ponca city I think even though my dad was sitting right there.

We in the Gebhart clan call Eli's Dad, and his third gen bird, "The White Shadow"!

This was '13, in the impromptu overflow parking lot for the Motel in Memphis.

Eli, your Dad is a good guy, I remember talking to him back in 2013 , when you were having a fuel issue. You all get the Drag week vibe!

I've said it before but.... I haven't met more than a handful of people in my life that really get what it means to be a motor head, UNTIL I went to drag week . there, I met tons of guys who REALLY get it.

seeing that picture just put a big smile on my face. that's some good times!!

Really, they haven't responded to the waiting list? Is it really August already? I like the show up regardless plan, that shows initiative.

We got some more details ironed out and it sounds like we are leaving nw iowa Wednesday to go down towards Cordova. Crash where crash and get up early and get to the track Thursday. Take off for St. Louis and crash where we crash Thursday night. Get up and go to gateway Friday morning and setup our tents and watch the races friday afternoon and the midnight madness deal Friday night. Camp at the track and watch a little bit Saturday and head back home saturday.

Should be a great trip, Look forward to seeing the cars I've been following along online for a couple years now, actually race in person.

Safe travels everyone and see you all Thursday!
