  • Is Drag Week dead?

With the stunning success of RMRW 1.0 & 2.0, is Drag Week, with Hot Rod Magazine as the promoter, dead?

I can totally see it morphing into an event with an outside promoter and HRM merely being the Title Sponsor, much like 1320Video is for RMRW. Leaving the nuts and bolts of running the event to someone else.

    Thoughts?

Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Watching from Australia I was surprised at how quickly the pulled it all together and put the event on, no sooner was DR off and RMRW2.0 was on.

I'm going to bet there is a "Race Week" every two/three months, heads south in the winter north for the summer, goes in a circle around the country.

My bet is even though it's a lot of work for the employees I bet it profitable so Hotrod will want to milk the cow as long as possible.
I wish someone would set one up in NC. Long weekends would be cool too.

Street Machine in Australia run a Drag Challenge event that's only one weekend. Race at one track then off to the second and back to the first. So I think they check in on the Friday finish up on the Monday.

I hope Drag Week isn't dead.

There's a much stronger pull for it, for many folks, than for RMRW.

I think its ridiculous myself. People seem to enjoy it though. Driving hundreds of miles for the hell of it and requiring you to take a specific route. I wouldn't drive that to watch let alone in a race car. I know they want to return to the same track at the end but they could go in a circle instead.

It's not for everyone, that's for sure. But when you finish Drag Week, you know you've done something.

I've finished all 8 that I've entered. Won class a couple times. Pretty slow compared to the fast cars, though. But it's a party, all week long.

No it isn't, they've just got started, with a 5 second pass.

It's the most fun and exhausting week of the year. It would not hurt my feeling if the drives were a little shorter. So there is more time to hang out. I have been twice. I have gotten to make passes at 8 tracks I may have never be able to other wise.

7 of these tracks I ran at not on drag week...the rest were only because of DW. Lots of miles getting there and back from AZ, also.

That's an impressive list! Do you have a wish list of other tracks to make passes on?

DW2021?????.....or does that knowledge require a secret knock and handshake or a trip to the darkweb. If it does happen hoping they stick with last years route.
