  • New mule rule!

    interesting

New 2012 Drag Week rule. The rest is being posted on HOTROD.com.
"Drag Week™ officials may, without notice, require competitors to set up their pit spot in an impound area for observation during track days. In impound, no one but the driver and passenger may work on the car without permission from Drag Week™ officials. In impound, no parts, tools, or supplies that were not carried in the car or the car’s trailer may be used without permission from Drag Week™ officials. At least one Drag Week™ competitor will be placed in impound during each track day. Some competitors may be impounded multiple days."

Interesting.... this doesn't stop folks from helping folks on the road- where the intent of helping others lies- but it stops pit crews at the races. Not a bad idea. Not as intrusive as I expected.
Why think when you can be doing something fruitful?

And "with" permission leaves plenty open. My guess is they'll throw all the numbers into a hat, draw one per day, and that person goes into impound. If they need legit help, like say it's me and my I need a 1/4" socket or allen wrench () and I want to ask someone like Squirrel to borrow one because my dumb-a$$ simply forgot one, then I'd just ask, and I doubt I'd get denied if I had a pile of tools in a tool box and was just missing something simple like that. Just theoretically right, after all I wouldn't forget stuff like that Then of course from the random drawing there would be "suspect" cars/trucks, which if legit have no reason to complain. I know I wouldn't.
      Escaped on a technicality.

I imagine they will be fair and flexible. I mean if it's something like Randal trashing an alternator belt, I bet they will let me run him to oreilly to get another one.

I can only imagine the complete douchebaggery that made a rule like this necessary. And that car couldn't last a single day anyways.

I can live with that .... seems more than fair. I'm w/Randal, I'm pretty confident if it's something unexpected or you forgot, they'll allow help from fellow competitors even if you're the one in impound.

If it will eliminate any grey areas about who can and cannot help great. Drag week to me is suppose to fun, and a week away from work. If at the end of DW 2012 everyone is happy it is a good rule.

i think this just stops the whole pit crew thing....or at least tries to put a limit on how many people are working on a car..i have no issue with people helping each other,,,thats a big part of the event...

It sounds like a good approach. Maybe those that get picked for the random impound can be given special Drag Week Jail shirts with stripes on them.

Maybe a clown car picture on it!. It's too bad some people have to stretch the rules to the extent we need a impound rule..... I'm so glad my slow cars usually behave themselves and I don't need a pit crew
