Newbie here, been looking at taking my truck on drag week next year. Does anyone use a 700R4 tranny?? Im looking at doing a DD for the first year so I would shoot for 400-450hp tops. I would love to use the od for the highway driving but dont know much about the 700's.

The biggest problem is the 700r4 has a very low 1st gear, like 3.14 or so. If you have raced it before and are ok with it the trani with the .70 od will work great. There are some out there but not a favorite. As far as I know no one makes any differant gear ratios for it. Brian and I use the 2004r with 2.48 1st gear, which like any trani, will keep you from bailing out of DW if you keep it cold enough along with other problems directly related to heat!!!

Im running a 700r4 and did drag week in 2009 2010 i have around the 450hp level been using the trans for 4 years now no trouble truck runs 11.50s @ 3870pounds with driver

We just completed DW 2012, with 55 Chevy, DD. weighing 4100#. We averaged 13 MPG. The 3:06 first gear makes for a good launch, but a short launch. You probably need at least a 3500 RPM Stall converter to reach total fulfillment. No trans issues to report.

Thanks guys, Im thinking this truck should weigh around 3000lb?? So hopefully that will help it survive. Its a 51 Chevy 5 window. I've never raced the truck, but I've raced everything from a 11second door car to a 7 second dragster.

I've been 10.80's @ 3600#'s ..... built the 700 in '06, freshened it in '10.
