  • Any imports???

So do or have any imports participated in this event

  • #2
They *all* make 1,000-1,200HP by the magazine covers I see, plus usually are feather weights. So why not? Would probably want a HP per Liter or HP per cid rule =P

Realistically, I'm guessing because it's a HotRod magazine event and hotrod probably isn't often read by that audience.
    Escaped on a technicality.

Last year there was a lexus and a datsun, both had Chevy power. Datsun didn't finish. This year there was the same Datsun and a Triumph, The Datsun finished (yay!) and the pontiac powered Triumph didn't make it.

I guess if there were a dyno at every strip, then we'd get some import powered cars running?

Diamond star, old school 90ish Mitsu, an Eagle Talon I think? That little sucker was clean. 11.0 ish, capable of wiping out lots of "fast" junk, including a lot of the guys bitching about DD's. You'd never see the bomb it dropped on you coming... I believe I have a picture, but have an MIA SD card at the moment. Obviously, I was a fan.

The Blown BBC 240 and turbo'd Pontiac powered TR6 were neat, but don't count as "import" with USA mills in them.

oops I forgot to look at the DD class. A Vauxhall and a Mazda both made the cut, the Eagle lasted two days.

All the imports were in DD or Unlimited. There don't seem to be any rules that would keep fast imports out of the other classes...???

Huber run's a 4-cylinder Mustang in Small Block Power Adder, so why not import cars in the same category?

I still think it's because the event is probably mostly unknown to that market.

spirit of dragweek was won by import car AND driver.a fast one at that.

the talon was awesome and really struggling to slow down to hi 10s..think he went 10.60 or so and was still consetvative.

                aussie charger?? but chrysler powered.

turbo 4 banger spirit?? not import, but close to same.

I forgot about the wagon, DOH! Those folks were pretty neat , they were wiped out in Gilliam so we didn't get a chance to talk to them. I wasn't counting anything with 'mercun power in it as an import! The wagon was 4cylinder tubo low 11's, had Hoosier dirt track 13's I think?

The RX7 was neat but had pistons. I think Monica would be happy with a second gen v8 car. Her folks had one (Rotary). I'd love a first gen with an all aluminum 302 I think, but need to sell some stuff before I buy ANYTHING else.

There really weren't any cars there I didn't like, and all of the folks (cept a couple) seemed like they would like anything that showed up. The imported imports though, were pretty neato.

The Mitsu was Micheal R (1fastevo). That little car was awesome, and knowing Mike it will get even faster.

Those are all cool cars. I was mainly talking about full out foreign stuff. Mitsu, nissan and stuff like that. I have seen some o that import stuff that is kinda cool stuff. I think someone needs to invite some of these import magazines to put a ad in their magazines to bring out some big hitter imports. Ya know gotta beat the best to be the beat theory ????

I was going to jump in to list Mick as an import. Just not sure it would classify being a home built GM powered turbo wonder. I do know he got twice the mileage as I did and he ran faster. But we could have put his car in the truck bed and still had room for my stuff. He was so small, I only saw him in my mirrors twice in 800 miles.

I bet stuff shows up. To race import means brute cheap as american, unless insane. A casting man, welder..

I spotted one of those rx7 with a late EJ series subaru. The guy making the bellhousing from scratch has not been making bellhousing castings for long, a year waiting list for all kinds of things to make.

it is a matter of time. The completely ripped off abyss from import hell gets a vengeance build once and awhile.

I want a lancia gamma engine in an 87 ten geared subaru. Freak chances all over the place...be easier to go 302 chevy.

The Spirit was a turbo 6 cylinder and the I believe the Talon ran a 10.3 during Sunday's test and tune... The driver is on the board.
