  • Let's play dissect the time slip!

Many of you guys have been doing this much longer than I, so what does this slip tell you? Where can I make improvements? Mph seems high for ET to me. Car is 3500# w/ driver. mine is right side of the slip.....nevermind Bill's 71 Mustang jetcar on the left. lol

    545, C6, 4000 converter, 3.55, M/T 28x10.5S slicks.

This is from Gilliam, LA during Drag Week.

Life is short. Be a do'er and not a shoulda done'er.

Car next to you obviously has a lame driver.

What is your launch RPM? Is it footbrake or trans brake? What is the shift RPM and trap RPM? Did you get to play with drive tire pressure at all?

We had great air in the morning at Thunder Road. Did you make more than one pass there and if so what did the second time slip look like?

Your not really very far off... lets face it... most DW cars have a compromise
to them..... your MPH should put up a ET of 10.45... you 1/8 is pretty dam close
to what it should be.... if you want to work on anything it would be the 60' and
      thats not too bad

Launch: 1100 rpm, footbrake, shift at 6000 and the trap rpm is a bit of a mystery since I am running a stock tach with an adjustable shift light. Light comes on before the stripe, so I'd guess 6100-6200?

I only fiddled with tire pressure a little. Mainly to try to help it launch straight and not pull to the right. Ran 1/2 pound more in the right rear (13psi) and it seemed to help.

I only made one pass there. I was so jazzed from that one run I'm not sure my heart could have taken another. haha

                    Yessir! Tops were in.

Reaction time: I was nervous because I was lined up against a rocketship masquerading as a 71 mustang with a scarecrow at the controls.

He had an issue on the line when we ran and I jumped out on Bill, then I had issues on the top and he flew by at 3/4 track about 20mph faster. I think my car shook like when a semi passes lol

As most of the calculator posts show you've got a bit more in it if you squared up the launch and made the 60 ft's/330's more efficient. An ARB would be the preferred route although who knows the football might work. Eventually, better shocks could help with that launch efficiency as would radial slicks. And then maybe a bit more stall you could see mid 1.30's in the 60 ft. times.

After that you need a scarecrow hat.

Keeping my eyes peeled for a hat!!!!!

I'm currently weighing options for squaring up the car at launch and was considered upping the carb to a 1050 from the 950. After looking at the approx finish line rpm and all, it seems like the converter has a pretty high slippage percentage (over 10 percent). I wonder if a higher quality converter may be a better choice to utilize the power it is making. The only thing that bugs me is the fact, like Jeff pointed out, it is so close to what it "should" be for that mph. I don't want to spend a bunch of money and time on a converter only to have little or no gain.

Understand all these numbers we are saying is based on the MPH in the 1/4
so IF you know (for fact) what the conv slippage is all these numbers COULD
                              change
