that's about what we spent without the car part.. I should stop gambling (bad Tulsa).

      Here's what I'm planning

Tow truck diesel - 400.00 in fuel just in case I have to go get car
      Car, roughly 1700 miles, 10 mpg average, 4.00 gallon = 680.00 could be more, maybe 850 ?
      140.00 night hotel / dinner
      500.00 beer (monica)
      200.00 beer (me)
250.00 misc. fast food and junk

assuming I stay away from casinos, about 2200 give or take.

I went in 11, I don't remember how much it cost, but it was worth it.

I only paid for a couple hotel rooms ( on the trip there and back), my co pilot paid for the rooms during the week. I bought gas, enough for 3700 miles at just over 10 mpg. Food costs money no matter if you're home or on the road....I'm a cheap eater, so $15/day usually covers my needs.

It's all about how much you drive your car ahead of time, so you spend all the "fix it" money before the trip, not on the trip.

I understand you eat at home also but when I'm out on the road I tend to eat good
one day then cheap out the next day... also at home I eat 90% wild game and thats
sorta hard to find on the road.... I plan on running my new ride as much as possible
to de-bug any issues.. I should have a good 4 months of driving time before DW and
I will run it back and forth to my other house a few times(200 miles each way)

It really depends on the distance from home and what your tow rig gets.

If it's close enough to drive the "race" car to from home - that would save a great deal of fuel money.

We got lucky and had enough hotel points from business travel during the year to cover all but two hotel nights - at about $100 each.
Holiday Inn Express has treated us well and the vast majority of those are new or re-furbished.
(remember when hotels quote prices, there are usually at least $10 - $20 in taxes on top of that to get the real cost)

I think 2 grand is a good estimate of the total taking into account two people, meals, lodging and fuel, and a few nice meals if you're lucky enough to have the time to enjoy them.

That leaves a little for extra expenses - but obviously if you start over-nighting parts to the track from summit - prices go up in a hurry!

Adding up the cost sucks the fun out of it for me. I just want to go, have fun and remember that it is a week long escape from the world and its problems. Adding it all up is like figuring out how much your trip to Vegas *really* cost! Haha

Ah heck, there is plenty of wild game on the road for ya!!

I was probably in for around $2,500, for a shade under 4,000 miles round trip and 9 days. That doesn't include the registration fee.
                Escaped on a technicality.

I take some comfort in comparing my hobby to my father's.... GOLF.

If you start to look at what it costs to play 18 holes a few times a month at a decent course, it starts making hotrodding look damned reasonable.

                  Hunting and fishing? Not cheap.

                  Gambling - way not cheap.

Going out to the bar all the time - also not cheap.

Bottom line - there's almost nothing in life that is free - spend wisely.

                    DW 2012 Estimated Cost Breakdown

                    2012 DW Estimated Cost Breakdown:

                    1. Registration: $250.00

                    2. Hotels: Average $100.00 per night. (9 nights).

                    3. Food & Beverages: (Your call), estimate $40.00 per day.

                    4. Gas: Depends if you drive the car: to, and from, or, use a trailer; plus: last years; circuit was approx 1400 miles. Cost Variable!

                    5. Souvenirs: $200.00, But, you end up with the most expensive t-shirt, in your collection!

                    6. Repair Parts: To be determined.

In summary, $2k is a good estimate.

                    7. Justification: in our opinion, being part of Drag Week; it is worth every penny!!!. Priceless!!!!!!

FAIR WARNING: DW is highly addictive.

                      ^^^^ what he said!

Here's to hoping we can have a Michigan caravan - complete with CB radios to the start of DW13 which is hopefully closer than Tulsa!

CB is a great idea... except we'd get chased by the FCC with Jake saying "Ghey" every time a Mustang passes him.

P-body, it's like this for me. Plan on 2500.00 - 3000.00 and put the rest back in the bank when you get home if there is any. It's cheaper than Disney. For some (okay, probably all of us) it's better. Damn sure cheaper than therapy and there's been a couple of times lately where just thinking I might get to do it again has kept me out of therapy.

I budget on spending 2k for the week. I live in central Illinois, so the last 4 DW have been a single long day drive. The one day drive helps keep the cost down a little compared to the Canadians or west or east coast guys. The other cost listed above seem close to what I spend, except for the beer. Just diet soda for me on DW. In the last 3 years, I didn't break much. So I didn't have any fix it bills. Hope this helps.
