  • A class for factory appearing cars like F.A.S.T. cars would be neat to see. Probably not much interest there from those guys though.

If someone showed up with a flat steel floorpan in PS/NA and DF told 'em they couldn't run, but let Miller run with a flat steel floorpan, then perhaps there'd be a valid unfairness argument (such as when "Generalissimo Turk" barks a lane closing to DDs in the open "free-for-all" session (a/k/a "garbage time") but then allows class cars run).

But DF, for better or worse, has made a judgment call that flat steel provides no performance advantage in PS/NA. And with the prevailing majority recognizing that DW is DF's "baby," we've pretty much all consented to him calling the shots.
You are someone who gets it! This whole floor deal has been a JOKE, and just makes a handful of people look like crybabies.. My floor has been accepted as it's not performance enhancing, it's welded in steel, in the stock location. The "other" car that had issues with it's floor is not even remotely like my car, it's ALL dzused in aluminum, and trans tunnel and driveshaft tunnel are raise way beyond the factory, along with a number of other issues, furthermore, that other guy called me, and the way he explained it, he was a dickhead to Turk, that's not gonna get you anywhere, and I'm well aware of this! There is a good reason the other guy would never post pics of his interior, all he would do was bitch... I've called tech officials many times over the years, it's a time to act as humble as you can be, raising your voice with them, or arguing is not gonna help your cause.

At the end of the day, most rule books have something like this, and this is right outta the DW rules..

•Vehicles with rule variations may be classified at the race director’s discretion.

That SHOULD be the end of story, but it won't be. lol

Interestingly, during the time-fill during the clock repair at BG, an internet viewer asked Freiburger and Finnegan about the possibilities of a West and/or East Coast DW. DF coyly dodged the question (after Finnegan torpedoed it, if memory serves) and then said he'd once laid out a route for a "doable" Left Coast DW . . . .

You really think some F.A.S.T. guy is going to ride 1,500 miles on a fake seat filled with cardboard?

It's doable, but wont' happen because the cars are east of here. No biggie, we can drive east to go racing.

Um, uh, Dude . . . I think you just slammed about a tenth of the US population. Last time I was at SEMA, I sure saw a lot of California tags on some smokin' hot iron.

There may not be much automotive freedom left in the People's Republic of CARB and its neighboring Pacific Rim nanny states, but there are most certainly enough hot machines left out there to fill out a nice DW-West field from the coastal provinces.

              • Yeah, sure. I live out here, I know how it is. I am just amazed at the machinery when I head east. It's unbelievable.

There probably are a bunch of capable cars in socal, but I sure don't see them when I'm tooling around on the freeway there in my old rides.

                • How about having the street classes have the engine match the manufacture of the car. IE: GM engine in GM's, Ford Engines in Ford's etc. Put the cross bred cars into super street. Tom H

                          • I think it's already been covered, but how about TIMELY email notifications to attendees?

The "write us a novel" form that HOT ROD sent out, was sent only TWO days before tech started. Luckily I had a mobile device to check my email and noticed in time to download and print the form when I arrived in BG, but what about those who couldn't?

A weeks notice would have been a lot easier. Other than the communication issue, I wouldn't change a thing.

                              • I thought the event was run very well, especially considering how much of a mess something like this must be to organize. My only suggestion would be to have a quick, 5-10 minute drivers meeting at like 8:30 every day, and explain to everyone where we get timeslips, and where return roads are... 200+ racers on unknown tracks can become disorganized and dangerous quick. The timeslip situation at St. louis was no fun and everyone was driving in circles for a while trying to find them.
