2014 Will be my first attempt at drag week. Time restraints kept me from running last year. I have a few questions to ask you guys.

On the routes planed out for you, what speeds do you guys see on these roads (45,55,65,75)? I'm really asking for the guys that don't have overdrive, is it a big deal? Do you wish you had overdrive? What gear, trans, and tire combo are you running, and what rpm do you sustain for those long hauls?

    THANKS!

We see all of those speed limits you mentioned. IF you can't cruise 75 don't go 75, you won't be the only one. I try to cruise between 3000-3500RPM. In 2012 I ran 3800-4000 on the last leg just so I didn't die on I-40 LOL.

No overdrive for me last year but it was fine... go as fast as you want to. I ran about 3,000rpm all week about 65-70mph. Plenty of guys go slower, and plenty of guys go faster.

That said, I'm putting a 6speed in right now with 2 overdrives. lol

You will run all those speeds you show.... but as a average I would guess
its about 50 mph(average).. they(hot rod) tend to run you on 2 lane roads
so that could be 45-55 average... we get out on the E-way and get a chance
to get the MPH up there..... you will run what you feel comfortable with

Agree with all the above, I ran 3000-3500 all week, no overdrive and 4.44 gears so it was slow going, 55-65 and it was comfortable hahahahaha

2009 I ran 4.86's with 31" tires and no overdrive...I was only doing about 51 mph @ 3300 so it was slow going. We were lucky in having Steve & Bob in the Blazer that hung out and cruised slow with us. You will likely be able to hook up with at least a couple cars that also go slower speeds.

For 2011 I switched to 4.22's for the new engine rpm and added a GearVendors. Last year it allowed us to cruise 70 @ 2800 or so ... when it wasn't pouring rain.

how fast you can go sometimes depends on who you're driving with. I was loafing along with some of my fellow Gasser class guys, we made it to the next town before dark once.

28" tires 3.55 gears, ran around 3000 rpm most of the time. Engine seemed really happy right there.

Gas stations along the way were happy, too. Credit card . . . not so much.

Believe it or not, two dominators and 3-3500 and pulling a trailer and it averaged 12-13 mpg

I've seen Powerstrokes that don't pull a trailer THAT well.
It's really no different than trying to glue them back on after she has her way.

I take full responsibility for the late arrivals ...
I ran 3:50 gears 30ish inch tall tires. the random broke parts is what took us so long..

I got decent mileage and never ran out of gas. That 950 carb was really rich at cruise too. The 1050 Dominator I have on it now is tuned waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

I did have a mild state of panic one day when my cc company decided to block it because of 'suspicious activity'. Had to have my wife call them and get it turned back on!
