  • Anyone running cheap eBay heads?

I know you get what you pay for but does anyone have any experience with these heads just wondering if they will last through Drag week? For the price I can't see how you could beat them they unless they just eat themselves http://www.ebay.com/itm/291196130658

They got to be better than stock if that's what your budget allows id go for it I have used cheap eBay parts like pro comp heads with success and some cheap 800 dolor Chinese striker kits with no problems

I've seen some scary reports when a qualified machinist gets ahold of mystery ChinaCo heads and starts measuring everything, like valve guide angles, installed height on the springs, spring consistency, valve job issues, rocker stud mis-locations, casting porosity, etc. So much so I would consider something with more of a "known" history if you know what I mean? Not sure if I would gamble on 500.00 difference for DW, it's hard enough on premium parts! I'd plan on carrying some heli-coils in every size there is a hole in the heads... maybe slap a set of springs in them so you know what they have.

Jeff Smith did a deal on heads a while back, pricing is probably not the same this year but this was an interesting read on some of the budget offerings I would consider instead. Hell, I don't know... I might try them, but really, probably not. Heads and Cam are the heart and soul of your machine, it's the one place I would definitely spend the extra money. It'd make for a good read if they survive the trip, though. One other thought - it's still hot as hell down here in September.

I run Patriot Performance heads on my BBC- inexpensive and really good so far. I did DW last year with them. No problems. They are now marketed under the name Promaxx due to the company changing owners. I would buy another set if I needed them.
Why think when you can be doing something fruitful?

I have 6000+ miles and 2 drag weeks on a set of pro comp bbc heads. I ordered them bare and set them up myself and did not have much to do. I did have to use longer push rods and tweek the guide plates. Also the rocker arm studs had to be modified in the intake runners. Will do some more work on them if I ever have to take them off. Just remember, my old truck is a slow boat.

                MLS from Skip White Performance

I had my doubts but went ahead with them in the mad rush of 2012 to get to tech. Had all kinds of issues from the engine back, but the flex plate forward has been good to go. I am also running the rotating assembly from Skip White as well. Skat crank/rods and SRP forged.

Thanks, a friend of mine has a set of those heads on a 496 and is having an issue with heat. Car runs real hot. He thought it was doing ok, but found out his temp gauge was bad and was reading way low. I had my doubts it was right because underhood temps were super high. Everything was hot. It's making me wonder if he has the wrong hg's in it.

I have no problems with heat, in fact I had to change to a 180 thermostat just to get up to temp. But as you know, every set up is special
