  • 2 1/2 weeks left....how's your car coming along?

How much work do you have left to do before Sept. 8th? Mine is currently setting without heads. Should be up and running a week before Drag Week. Hopefully will get a couple trips to the track in and a few miles on it.

Only work I have to complete is adding some extra floor D-rings in the car hauler (to secure the DW trailer). That, and service the truck..

A far cry from last year, where it was literally down to the last minute... "road test" around the block, load up and leave for Bowling Green (but that's a whole 'nother long sad story! ;) )

Many kudos to all you guys and gals who bust ass to make it happen. The stuff I read and hear that you guys do is nothing short of amazing. It shows a true dedication to this hobby we all love. I took the easy way out and just bought a CTS-V wagon and called it a day. Best of luck to all in getting your rides ready for Drag Week 2014!

I've worked on mine daily since the motor came off the dyno 3 months ago. New motor, trans, driveshaft, 9", shocks, front and rear suspension, AR bar, new hood with fabbed scoop, roll bar, fuel system, etc. The car is drivable now. It still haven't made it to the track with all the rain we've had. Still need to build a trailer hitch, find some street wheel and tires that will fit my 5/8 studs, and other little things. I'm saying I'm still 50/50 based on my confidence in the car with little track and road testing. Don't want to embarrass myself out there.

Transmission should be assembled tonight and installed in the next day or so. Unfortunately I'm out of town friday and saturday, but hope to drive it sunday and put a bunch of miles on it next week, finish the tuning, make some wide open passes on the street, then spray it, then go the track. Running out of time...

The car is in pretty good shape, I need to wire it for the trailer and I need to figure out how I am going to load my trailer and what if any extra stuff it will allow me to bring.

I think the first thing I load this year will be a spare coil. Thats what I forgot last year and that is what I needed!

I think the way Mr. Murphy works, you need to bring all the stuff that you don't want to work on. Then, the part that breaks will be something you're not prepared for, something simple, like a coil.

Drove mine back to work after lunch. Pretty uneventful except for the part where the cotter pin in the shifter cable decided to exit stage left and I was stuck in 1st gear. I don't know what mph 3000 rpm in 1st is, but it's not real fast. haha

Luckily we have a big shop in back, so I just pulled it in and am letting it cool off before fixing it.

Fortunately you work in an office, which still has paper clips...right?

Let's be real . . . dead man walkin' (or more likely than not, making the hard decision to drive the hated store-bought mule at about 9:00 a.m. September 7)

But if there's any hope, I'm not pulling the plug before time trials close on Sept 8 . . . even if I have a "pushmobile" at inspection on Sunday . . . .

Mr. Murphy had to rub it in a little. I thought I packed it, I knew I packed it, but when I got home it was sitting on the work bench with its middle finger up at me.

I'm pretty much ready. All I like is hooking up my pressure gauge to monitor my alky injection pump pressures. I drove mine Monday morning early to get the front end aligned which was bout 30 miles round trip. The car did good and scared plenty of pedestrians on the side walk going through town with my side exit exhaust.

Finally got the starting issue solved. Just put in a larger radiator with 1 1/2 tubes. Need to weld up the exhaust some. Then hit the road. It MIGHT even wax it. Nah sounds too much like work.
