  • I don't really have room for a copilot or passenger once I get all of my junk into my car. I carry everything in the car with me and once I get it all packed in, there is no room for a passenger.

Duh! John, that's what the mule car with a trailer is for! Oh, wait a minute...
Anyway not only do I think it should be mandatory, I think everyone should bring a co-driver, and then just like those parties my wife and I go to, everyone puts their keys in a basket, and whoever's keys you pull out, that's the person your co-driver rides with! Oh, wait a minute...
What's that honey? That's a bad analogy to use on a car guy site? I've got multiple windows open again! Dang it!

Or a slow car with multiple copilots?

          • Same deal here, not much room for passengers once car is loaded for the week. Drove solo from FL. & during DW two years in a row. Not understanding what a passenger could do for me that myself or a cell phone couldn't.

I guess if you bring a well sorted out combination, that isn't stressing any of the parts at the E.T. it's capable of, then you're in the lanes early and on your way to the next destination within two hours of the race day, it must be seem like a pretty easy endeavor. I have yet to experience such a Drag Week, since we bring junk bolted together at the last minute. I also believe both you and Kirby have at least one DNF, and I have yet to personally experience that either, knock on wood, in 5 Drag Weeks.

It's my opinion, based on my experiences, that the event is more enjoyable, and safer with a co-driver. Everyone seems to be worried about car count growing out of control, and how do we allow the most people to enjoy the event, well, if everyone had a co-driver, now you have effectively raised the number of participants without adding more cars.

Are the motel parking lots at the next day's location more fun than actually spending the day at the racetrack where the event is happening? Maybe I've been doing it wrong all along! Kinda like running a marathon, I like to take 5 hours, and really soak in all that it's about, what's the fun in running one in under 3 hours?
Co Driver has nothing to do with drag week. Co Driver would not have helped in my DNF. Thanks for a broze dist gear letting go back in 06.

Most of don't have room or friends that can take time away from there family.

Since you asked 2 to 4 runs per day on avg. spend time at the track helping out others or driving to junk yards to get parts. The drive is peaceful. Talk at the tracks at night with friends and the phone with the family.

                  • I could not have done it without my copilot. Granted the Caddy wagon gave us some extra room.

                    • I personally don't think a co-pilot is necessary. I tend to be a 'do it by myself' kind of guy anyway, so having an extra body around all week would probably just add to my stress level.

                        • I have been on DW with and without a co-driver. I think it is more fun with a co-driver. You have someone who can try to keep you awake on the crazy routes @ 2am.

                            • my co-pilot has been 3 times and next year will be the first time he will get behind the wheel. Looking forward to being on the right side. Up to now (past 3 years) his task was to keep track of my glasses, coffee cup & other stuff I laid down.
Drag Week 2012 (wet paint and no transmission but finished) Drag Week 2013 Daily Driver finished in middle of pack (again) Drag Week 2014 #56 of 126 Daily Drivers. (getting closer to the 32)
