Last time the PT stopped in Champaign we found this place, Black Dog Smoke & Ale House - Urbana for some great BBQ. It's a very small place so if you go except to wait.

Couple suggestions here.... I live in effingham il (just about hour fifteen south of Champaign) plus I drive a truck with a dedicated route to Madison area.....

If stopping in effingham area I would suggest niemurg's (spelling is prob off but close) really good food, they will treat you right, and the price is very reasonable. Me wife and 3 kids (8,12,16) have eaten there for 50 including tip) meals remind me of grandma's cooking.. easy to get to, exit 159 go east, on left side just part the b q gas station

If you want b b p..... I would suggest Pauly's in author il...... ribs that fall off the bone I will have to double check what day it is but at 4 they serve their "extra meaty" ribs and they have about twice the meat on them. Their b b q nacho's are excellent. Everything is cooked with a dry rub, they have 4 sauces on the table. Easy to get to, exit 203 (I57) head West about 8 miles on the North side before stop sign in author il. It is a small place. This area is Amish country so if you stop here, just watch your step (yes the do bring the real horse power in for food as well)

On the North side of Madison I go to exit the pine cone. This is a small truck stop/shell gas station. The full service, sit down, what I will call old school cooking. This suggestion is more for their breakfast (cinnamon French toast is wonderful) and their bakery more then their dinner (my taste like a bit more salt and pepper lien they cook with).

Anybody have any questions feel free to ask, I go from mount Vernon il to Madison to Indiana back to mount Vernon 3 times a week

Pine Cone is good. Usually stop there on the way to or from Jefferson for the spring & fall shows.
Hauling ass & sucking gas are the best uses for a truck.

Dad and I used to have this set of rules while on tour
                    1: no chain restaurants
2: no two same genre of food two nights in a row
3: had to have 3 or more power tour cars from out of the state we were in parked in the lot.

We found some great places this way. Took a while to find a place sometimes and only got burned once or twice but overall worked well.

I have mostly the same set of rules as GTPilot. I will eat at a chain if there's one I don't have at home and BBQ is always a good choice wherever you travel. Corky's in Memphis is excellent.

We had a good breakfast gathering at a Diner's Drive-in's and Dives location in Miami, Okla. - we should do that again.

We are at the Comfort Suites at the intersection of Highway 302 and I-22. Are you at the same exit? There is a Colton's Steak House across the street from our hotel.
