              • 135..... Crazy Horse Memorial is the worlds largest mountain carving. I'm sure Wagon Master Doug will share about this place when we are in the Hills. I'm going to give you some back woods looks. I've participated in the (June) Crazy Horse Volksmarch on four occasions, over fifteen years. A volksmarch is a 6.2 mile walk organized by a Volksmarch association. At Crazy Horse, the event is a walk through the woods. This is a fairly rugged activity, and last time we did this I said, "never again"......... Actually that was the second to the last time, and I went again. The weather is unpredictable, we've been fried under the sunny skies and wore layers one year when it snowed. The last time we went was in 2014, I didn't prepare well (if at all) and thought I was going to die before we made it to the top. The Volksmarch starts at the Crazy Horse visitors complex parking lot, the trail goes down the hill and up the hill, eventually getting to stand on Crazy Horse's arm, and then ending back at the parking lot. I'll take you along through pictures........

                    • 135 days to go, I remember when you & Sarah did that walk George. My brother lived in Pringle, SD south of Custer in the 80's. He worked for the lumberyard in Custer that furnished lumber for the Crazy Horse monument. I got to go on a delivery with him during a visit. We went to Crazy Horse and some of the family took us on a tour by truck. We ended up walking on the arm! Pretty exciting!

                          • 134..... The Crazy Horse Volksmarch is in everyway a challenging activity. Sarah and I started out on a pretty brisk pace passing young kids, elderly folks and moms with baby strollers as we descended into the back woods, enjoying the cool extremely humid air. The trail turns into rugged terrain and steep inclines, as we were progressing along, we noticed at some point our brisk pace had been slowing, and soon after, we were being passed by young kids, elderly folks and moms with baby strollers. Thank goodness they have check points with water (for purchase) and medical personnel, after a short stop to get our card stamped and a splash of water, we were off, now at a more reasonable pace..........
