      • The wife and I both had colds last week. Thursday & Friday were the worst 2 days. I had thought I would drive down Saturday but couldn't leave the wife sick and by her self to keep up with our 4 year old grand son. So I stayed home. I hate I missed it but I glad I didn't have the virus! I sure didn't want to take a chance on going and giving it to anyone else.
Glad everyone had a good time and tell Robert he took some awesome pictures Perry.
Retirement is better than I thought!

          • Couple more pix of the Road Trippers. Water front parking and dining is all along the Forgotten Coast, but you won't find the Smallest Police Station in the Nation any where except Carrabelle FL. And, of course there is only one HandleBar !

Cheers back ya, Happy Hour Crew !

            • Such a super fun trip! Thanks to everyone that contributed to its success. Thank you Allen and Willow for planning, research, and for your great hospitality. There were 16 people and 9 cars that made the Forum Freaks "Southernmost Road Trip" "Overseas Highway Tour". I didn't take as many pictures as usual, mostly due to not having my good camera along. There should be plenty more pictures from others also.

              • Allen and Willow treated everyone to a nice kick off gathering at their home. Great food and company, excellent pulled pork, beans, salads, cookies and Big Dave's sausages. No one should have gone away hungry. We had a great Florida evening with friends. Thank you for such wonderful hospitality. (Sorry, no food or people pictures).

                      • Last year when Allen and Willow came to Kool Deadwood Nites in South Dakota, Willow had along her National Parks Passport book. Her first cancelation stamp was at the Minuteman Missile Site at the entrance of the Badlands National Park. Since part of this trip included National Parks, I got a Passport for Teri and myself. My first cancelation stamp was at the Everglades City visitor center. As part of fulfilling the Passport cancelation stamps, we made some Everglades visitor center stops along the way to Florida City. Teri and I have an annual Parks pass we bought last year. For you more mature people than me, you can purchase a lifetime National Parks pass. Our stops included Everglades City, Big Cypress and Shark Valley. Upon leaving Shark Valley, Bruce, Donna and Bob were near the entrance waiting to see an Alligator, one did surface giving a photo op.
We made our way to Florida City with enough time to relax in the pool before going to Bruce's recommended Mario's Cuban restaurant. We saw tremendous smoke clouds from the southeast and woke up to ash on the cars.

                        • Monday morning everyone set out for Key West with different agendas. Hopefully everyone will share their experiences and pictures here. Allen, Willow, Teri and I headed for Everglades National Park. The scenery driving through the park was a combination of Safari, Swamp and Lakes. Its a 40 mile drive one way to the Flamingo Visitor Center on the Gulf. The visitor center is currently under reconstruction and renovation due to hurricane damage, there is a temporary center with information and cancelation stamps. We saw several species of birds, fish and some Manatees in the harbor. On our way out we stopped at 9 Mile Lake, and the Coe visitor center for stamps. There was one Alligator or crocodile floating around in the pond.
We entered the Overseas Highway near the hotel at Florida City. I'm not sure what I expected of this, and I've heard it can be busy and slow. The drive was sometimes congested and sometimes open space. The rental Camaro did reasonably well in the "passing zones". We stopped at the Island Cafe on Islamorada for some pretty tasty lunch. We continued over the Seven Mile Bridge and several more keys arriving in Key West. We had dinner at Seven Fish restaurant, then had a quick guided tour of Duvall St.

                            • Well we made it home at 2:30 this afternoon. The little car did good and will hold a surprising amount of stuff in it. Here are a few of the stats for the trip.

                              4065 miles door to door.
                              28.1 MPG for the trip
                              67MPH average speed.

                              • Tuesday morning came early, Chris and Karen, Leon and Ashley, as well as Allen, Willow, Teri and I had reservations for an early boat ride to Fort Jefferson. The Dry Tortugas National Park is located 70 miles east of Key West near the end of a barrier reef that runs from Miami. The Dry Tortugas offers historical tours, swimming, camping, birding and snorkeling. Allen and Willow are experienced in snorkeling, it was something new to Teri and myself. We really enjoyed the experience, There's some interesting things going on under the surface, thanks Allen for the encouragement to try this. After a sandwich lunch, we self toured the Fort and found the cancelation stamps for our passports. We met Chris, Karen, Leon and Ashley on board for departure back to Key West. Hopefully they will share their experiences. Mean while, Perry was out with the boys scouting photo locations, Bob, Donna. Dave and Bruce were hanging out on Duvall. Hope they share their tuesday adventures. We had dinner at Duffy's, and then walked up Duvall before retiring at the pool for drinks and conversations.....
