I got the broken bolt out by welding ex heavy 3/8 nut on broken bolt, took three tries but once weld got built up on bolt it welded up fine. came out easy once a little heat built up in head.

Don't give it a second thought - I enjoyed the trip and the tire changing wasn't that big of deal at all.

Are you smoking something?

He had a short-ass 10" 1/2" drive ratchet!
On the upside, they were standard taper seat lug nuts not shanks so once the torque was released they spun off/on pretty easily.

EDIT: Please don't encourage him to step up to a full set of power tools to take next year - we did just fine without all that extra weight.

Did you grind a taper on the bolt and then tig weld it together? What method did you use Bob?

bolt was broken off flush with head, so i started putting a chamfer on 3/8 xh nut and using a mig welder, but wire would arc to nut first, after a couple of tries a little nipple built up on bolt, then i was able to weld solid to bolt, it unscrewed easy once everything was warm
