NOTE FROM KEITH (ONE OLD GOAT) TO 1956NY150
after i bitched about oil leak and things to do!
Hi Guys
L The Nova failed the chassis inspection
L Turns out the original roll bars where not up to spec. they were 0.090 tubing and they need to be 0.120 wall thickness.
J Bryon my welding has stepped up and offered to weld in the new cage this week in the evenings.
J I have had Tanner working on the car full time the past week. My Dad has even spent a few afternoons helping Tanner. I have been working on the car nights and weekend
I am still trying to get all the little things done so I can put it on the road and get to the track for a few practice runs. Every new part we have put on has some type of problem. I am loosing more hair by the day and Tammy is getting real pissed that I am never home and things are not getting done around the house.
I have no chance of running in Pro Street as I will not have any time to get track runs ins and get the forms out to get my license in time now. I am hoping that if every thing is done on the car they will let me do my speed runs during Drag week.
List of things done:
- Add front bars to complete the cage
- repaired frame at front body mounts
- get chassis certified (failed)
List of things done:
- Add front bars to complete the cage
- repaired frame at front body mounts
- get chassis certified (failed) – Had a 2 hr trip each way to meeting up with the NHRA inspector and I will have to do it again
- New Window net
- New 5 point harness for the driver (old - new and unused one was out of date)
- New SFI Helmet
- New blow off valve
- Rework intercooler support brackets for better fit and allow hood clearance
- New Fluid cooler at the back of the car
- Relocate the fluid cooler pump to the back of the car
- 2 New trans coolers at the back of the car
- 2 new fans for the fluid cooler and the trans cooler
- 2 new fans and shroud for the radiator
- Replace the front upper and lower control arms front control arms and springs (already had the 12 way adjustable shocks)
- Re-weld the front frame section at four points for the driver side lower control arm connection points as they were rotten under the old control arm
- Rewire the data collection equipment
- Fab. and install a trailer hitch
- New lighter socket
- Tons of rewiring of various circuits
- Tons of plumbing work for the relocation of the fluid cooler and the trans cooler
- Replace the MSD ignition Module and coil with a Mallory HyFIRE VI, coil and a MAP sensor for boost regulated timing retard
- Rewire battery cut off switch to conform to rules
- Replace the mufflers with hopefully quieter ones (I have not heard them yet)
- Pipe the exhaust out from under the car to just in front of the rear wheels
- Picked up new license plate sticker
- Cut out and replaced a section of the main fuel line ( the guys melted it when they were putting in the front bars) I lost 5 gals of gas on the asphalt drive way out side of the shop and did not notice it for a couple of hrs. I ran the water hose on it for 5 hrs but the driveway has turn to mush.
Things to do yet:
- Install Gear vendors unit and new shorter drive shaft
- Replace the back section of the roll cage unit
- Take the car back for a 2nd chassis inspection
- Take the car in for a front end alignment – ( I have missed 2 scheduled appointments due to optimistic planning)
- Change the oil
- Pick up and mount a fire extinguisher
- Find Speed rated tires
- Install the wiper motor and wipers
- Wire the car for the trailer lights
- Pick up the new trailer - I bought a light weight 4’ x 5 box trailer with a lockable lid. (U-Haul could not guarantee that I would be able to get a trailer in Topeka – they said I might have to travel up to 150 miles to pick up a trailer – like I am got to chance that)
- Fab. brackets to hold the new trailer on the back of the car hauler
- Add additional lights for the trailer extension
- Install a Radio and speakers (like we will be able to hear the radio)

I borrowed this from the friend, of a friend ....
"There comes a time in your life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh. Forget the bad, and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living".
Made me do some pondering !
