I did some calculating and found that I can easily park 20+ vehicles in the yard, and still have room for your trailer. My trailer might be converted to a stage .......

        • Perhaps you remember that I had a major stupid attack last May and ended up damaging both my vehicles. Just before I left for DragWeek, I got the truck back from the body shop. Here are some before and after pictures

The stake pocket on the driver's side wasn't hurt that bad as the tailgate took the brunt of the hit on that side

Hard to see in this picture but the stake pocket got KILLED on the passenger's side. At one point they were contemplating cutting it out but in the end decided to save the old one. It didn't come out perfect but it is good enough for this version of the truck

An inside shot of the passenger side stake pocket give a little better clue to the damage

Steve Covey tried to "fade" the Astec Gold to match the original paint and not destroy the character of the truck. Hopefully after a couple of years in the Florida sun - it won't be quite as noticable.

The wagon is schedule to go into the body shop mid October for it's repairs. I hope to get the doors gutted (glass, regulators, vents, speakers, panels, ....) and all the side glass out of it this weekend.

I was hoping to get the transmission back in it before it went to the body shop but that probably isn't going to happen as I am still waiting for the new (used) case and modified direct clutch drum to get here. IF I don't get the transmission reassembled and installed before it goes to the body shop then there is a high probability that I won't be ready to go to the Devereaux-Kaiser show the end of January.

          Starting to ponder "paint"
          - back half primer?
          - two-tone primer (gray and black) to match the front half?
          - back half bare metal from the belt line down?

I can not afford (or justify) a complete re-paint of the entire car.

          • That shop does nice work Allen.
I would think they could work the new paint up to the door jambs........but then, I only saw it 3 months ago...don't remember any damage above the black......anyway, I would think as new as the paint is they could blend it rather well.

Yes, I suppose that to the casual observer that most of my episodes seem majorly stupid.
However, as an experienced participant, I can clearly distinguish different orders of magnitude between some of them.

this is getting entirely too deep for mere pondering.......almost philosophical in nature......
perhaps we should re-assess the situation being discussed and put it in proper proportions......
as......a totally unanticipated circumstance resulted from a seemingly proper and well thought out operation.....although the overall result produced a substantial amount of collateral damage; and
even though well within the ability to reconcile, also produced a fairly large amount of capital reinvestment, as well as an equally contingent level of self-evaluation. Further study will most likely confirm that in spite of the best precautions and stringent applications of industry standards of the operation......shit happens. Fix the car Allen! We all have had our moments, but probably haven't had the courage to admit them.

The car is stripped (interior, glass, bumpers, taillights) and ready to go to the body shop. I am now at their mercy - waiting for them to be ready to take the car. Regardless of what I decided to do about the paint, the sheet metal will once again be as perfectly straight as humanly possible.

As to your other questoin - yes the Ice Blue Metalic got damaged on the driver's side. There is also some concern about damage to the passenger side quarter that was barely noticable and has seemed to go away as the metal has relaxed some since the original impact. I am going to wait for them to get if off the frame table and then take a real close look at the reflections in the paint on the passenger side - if they are not perfect then it will get blocked and repainted as well. I suspect that it will end up requiring a repaint from the middle of the doors (excluding the roof) all the way back (including the rear hatch). The initial estimate is to have it back by the end of the year but I am not going to hold my breath on that part of the deal.

                      • We'll be hoping they can stay on schedule, and I am confident that based upon the work we've seen and your standards of acceptability, it will be as good, if not better, than it was.

Any opinions about which is best (and why)?
I find it hard to believe that Eastwood's is twice as good as all the other options but they do tend to be very proud of their stuff.
