  • The Night Before Christmas - car junkies version

'Twas the night before Christmas, my battery was dead,
My head gasket was blown, my tires had no tread.
The car parts were placed on the workbench with care,
In hopes the mechanic soon would be there.

The transmission was leaking, the oil-dry I spread,
While visions of dollar-signs danced through my head.
While surveying the problems, I started to weep,
Cause I knew in my heart it wouldn't be cheap.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I threw open the garage door to see what was the matter.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But the Snap-On man in a truck from Goodyear.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be Saint Nick.
With his band of mechanics, out of the truck they came,
And he whistled and shouted, and called them by name.

Now, Bruce! Now, George! Now, Earl and Fred!
On Matt! On Bob! On, Charles and Ed!
Let's get to work quickly on this poor old wreck,
Although getting it running may be too much to expect.

The screwdrivers they glistened! The wrenches they flew!
I was anticipating a car that looked almost new!
They put on new tires, they fixed all the leaks,
I thought, "Maybe I'll make the Power Tour with the Freaks!"

When suddenly Santa said, "There's no hope for this thing!"
"Let's get a car in here that has some real bling!"
He opened the trailer, he backed the car out,
And all the mechanics, they started to shout!

I could not believe it, I haven't digested it yet!
It was better than a midyear Sting Ray Corvette!
Down the driveway came something no one has yet seen,
A Camaro Convertible in Synergy Green!!

He laughed when he saw me, in spite of himself,
Cause he was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf.
He said, "Consider this a gift from heaven,
Cause you're going to go on Power Tour 2011!"

I didn't know how to thank him, the mechanics they cheered,
I wouldn't be stuck at home like I feared.
I hugged him and kissed him, my heart all a-quiver,
He said, "I must go, I have toys to deliver!"

He sprang to his truck, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

    MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!

Re: The Night Before Christmas - car junkies version

Here's one I wrote a few years back for the car club Christmas party:

          A RODDER'S CHRISTMAS CAROL
'Twas the night before Christmas, and all thru the shop,
I searched for the tools to hand to my pop.
Hotrodders, this night, all snug in their beds,
Would dream of a chopped top with fresh coat of lead.
Instructions were studied and we were inspired,
To hotrod this car, some assembly would be required.
We opened the boxes, my heart skipped a beat,
Let no parts be missing or parts incomplete!
When up on the roof I heard something pound,
I sprung to the window, to scream, "Keep it down!"
I looked on the roof, up not very far,
I saw a strange vehicle not like any car,
It had bits and pieces, it sure was no fake,
It came from Detroit, a little of each make.
'40 Chevy, '32 Ford, and even some Rambler,
A red light upfront reminiscent of a reindeer.
With a top hat and tails, his eye gave a wink,
It was "Big Daddy" and his friend, the Rat Fink!
This heap needs some big help, he said of our rod,
I have what you need, just give me a nod.
His helper's eyes were bloodshot and scary,
Flies buzzed his head that was very hairy.
Now bolt it, now weld it, with a bang and a thud,
We knew his work, this car wouldn't be a dud.
They worked through the night, with hammer and torch,
Out of their way, we dozed on the porch.
He jumped from the shop in a big cloud of dust,
Come dig this lead sled, Come quick! You must!
I threw open the door and opened the shutter,
The car was just perfect, paint glistened like butter.
We gazed at the car, Big Daddy was perplexed,
He was trying to decide just what to do next.
Something special was needed, a touch that he might,
Bestow on this Custom to make it just right.
As he stuck his finger on the side of his neck,
He flew thru the door to land on the rear deck.
He whipped out a brush, a gold handled Red Sable,
And added the touch, no picture or fable.
When he was done we beheld the sight,
          It said "Merry Christmas,
And To All A Good Night"
