call and inform your bank that you will be traveling and using you credit card around the U.S. i know with our bank if they see it used in places across the country and not being used in our home town they think its stolen and temporally deactivate it.

Happened to me, but it was a legit reason. Apparently someone tired to spend 1000 on walmart.com with my number. I think it was stolen from a gas station (murphy's express) in Valdosta, GA.
