Our 68 camaro convertible averaged 18.19 MPG while on the HRPT. It has a 9.0 to 1 350, 500 cfm edlebrock, 3:31 rear gears with 2004R transmission. We were pulling a small motorcycle type cargo trailer. According to the mile post, the odometer is accurate. I went to .003" larger metering rods for a lean reading on the plugs. I'm dissapointed the mileage is not better. I do still have points and don't know if this hurts or not.

sometime overdrive trans and to much cam can kill gas mileage, big cams need gear and rpm to get mileage!

I have a RV cam in the camaro. It appears MPG is like performance........some cars are born fast and some get good mileage. It takes a good combination to have either one, and mine does not have it.

i was just hoping to break 20 mpg with my duster. im pretty close. i dont think 19 was all that great but it mad eme feel pretty good to talk to a guy in cocoa with a chevelle that had some kind of ls engine and a kiesler trans, he was proud to have gotten 20-21.
my 400 is a smog era engine with real low compression, some have doen the math and say as low as 7.8:1, they were rated a little higher, i re ringed it before i put it in. they have huge heavy pistons, im thinking 9.5:1 and a nice light piston should help. i was also on the lean side on my trip, but it ran great. i fattened up the jet and just took it on a 200 mile trip that was all hills and mountains and i got 18. im not sure if being lean even helped.
the nice thing with the od vs just going with a highway gear, you have the best of both worlds, you still have power out of the hole.

Wow feel like a gas hog. I got 12mpg no matter how I drove it, but I proably could have done better on the interstate if I actually ran the speed limit. 80 plus with 3.73's, overdrive, and short tires I was turning around 2800. Funny thing is on the way back I blew past a ton of prius's. My buddy started pointing out the look on there faces when a loud car goes blowing past them, priceless.
79 malibu that hopefully makes it for 3000 miles

Made it with no breakdowns, missing 2012

i set my 58 up for cruising the highway. 350 ramjet, 700r4 and 3.27 gear. i averaged 20.1 mpg using cruise and with the ac on. these 55-59 chevy trucks are like driving a brick down the road. the PT was my first big trip, i only had ~500 miles on it since getting it on the road. i was going to be happy with anything over 15 mpg, 20 mpg had me grinning big time.

                              I was pleasantly surprised.....383, 5-speed, 3:73 gears......2000 RPM @ 70, averaged 18.8 on the highway. Got 6 in the parking lots.

Bah. I would say I concerned about MPH last year...but I was averaging 15mpg with the 3.50's out back with the top loader and 1:1 4th gear. At 3800 RPM for around 3800 miles. OK, so, at 3800, we didn't get 15mpg. I was getting like 200 miles on 16-18 gallons of gas.

This year, I did 2.75's out back...and at speed the GTS was soo much smoother and fun to drive at speed.
Yes, I miss burnouts through second gear...but it's nice to not strain the engine and get passed by a freaking prius on the interstate.

Personally..I want a new 6.2l Mod V8 with a t-56 sitting in a crownvic PI chassis running EFI under the torino.
