I see on the Family events site that they have the first venue listed as the Proving Grounds- anybody have any thoughts?

if you look at the list of hotels, and their distance from the "venue", it seems like the venue is the GM Tech Center on Van Dyke.......

Heck - that is cheap! They quoted me $149 plus tax 3 months ago.

I made reservations at the HI on Van Dyke back in September. Our AAA rates before taxes average $101.00 for the three nights we are there due to a bump in rate from Thursday to the weekend. Guess I got in early before the rates went up. Yeah for me on that stop I guess. Even booked weeks ago, the rates everywhere seem a bit higher this year.

Made reservations at the HIE in Miami. Rate wasn't too bad, but I bet higher than normal.

I told Phil I think someone editing the Family Events website - bet they were using the 2011 webpage and just making corrections for 2012 - just got distracted. After all the security that was in place for the Long Haul awards I would highly doubt GM would open up the proving grounds to the general public. Phil agreed.

There is another casino out in the sticks. Just off the interstate at the junction of US400 a few miles back towards Joplin. I'm thinking we may backpedal and spend the night there, or in Joplin.
Personally, I'm with you Jim......some of the most beautiful roads in the country available and it looks like we'll kamikaze down the interstate again. Really disappointed about that.
The Daryl Starbird museum is nearby, and so is this:

70mph speed limit in MO, if you can stand the pot holes. I always thought we had crappy roads, then I went to Michigan, wow! BTW, I got a room at the HEI in Miami so I may actually see some of you on the tour next year. First HEI I've stayed in on the tour since about 2005.

Proving grounds, highlight of my 2011 so far and it will be hard to beat.

Champain, IL to Miami is a stretch. Almost makes me think the in between stop wouldn't be Gateway, but I'm racking my brain to think of another town/location along I-44 that could hold it. Rolla, MO will be a deserted college town, but no huge parking lots. Six flags near STL will be in full on summer tourist mode and another hot ass parking lot. Gateway's facebook page has been blown up with local racers requesting 2012 schedule info. along with one guy with my last name asking when the HRPT stop would be announced. Their response was a simple no official schedule out yet.
                          GM G-bodies, because I can't afford a 69 Camaro.

I am thinking maybe not Collinsville anymore... maybe we will just have to wait and see.. Maybe more like Columbia, MO or something too, or something on the West side of St Louis at least... Hot Rod and FE got lots of grief about the long interstate run last year! (however it was a good chance for a nap for me, the only day my co-pilot drove)
