For what they're charging for hotel rooms, there damn well better be something to do in Ames! :o ;D

For the cost of the rooms, they should be providing gold plated dash plaques thanking us for staying with them.

Our boy Christopher Campbell @ HRM has advised that that the Power Tour will include a "lunch stop" at Cedar Falls Raceway (drag strip) on the morning of Thursday, June 12 and PT participants will be able to make passes there as well as Topeka. (I am beginning to consider this guy a red blooded junkie!)

Looks like my purchase of the "gold plated funny car" helmet will come into good use again. Hopefully some of the 1320 junkie veterans will be able to coach me into the 13's ;D LOL

Lincoln, and Ames are Big 12 University towns, Madison is a Big 10 University town and Rochester has the Mayo Clinic. All have lots of motel rooms but they are expensive.

It's funny that the auto part stores didn't know the Power Tour was coming to town but I'll sure bet the motels did. Most of these motels survive on home footbal game weekends. The Power Tour is just like a home game weekend, time to make some money.

I would caution that both Ames and Madison have had some issues with riots in the past and the police can be a little "pro-active" to prevent things from getting out of control.

just noticed, in the small print in HR magazine:......Air Ride technologies and Year One, with Peak Antifreeze, are sponsoring a street challenge autocross; the first leg will be in Ames, Iowa; the second leg of the challenge will be at the strip in Cedar Falls, Iowa; and for what it's worth, NAPA is sponsoring a test and tune at Heartland Park in Topeka, Edelbrock has the bbq dinner going in Springfield, and Air Ride/Year One are sponsoring the bowling night in Rochester (Aeroquip doing some stuff there too)......not to forget the Cherry Bomb giveaways and the finale in Madison (with the band, etc.).....

Anyone doing a drive-in movie night?

I guess they're too far from any large bodies of water to hunt sea-bats. They have been known to migrate to large ponds.....

They are usually seen out at sea, you catch one and put it in a box. When you show it to others, they have to bend over to carefully look in the box and when they bend over, someone hits them with a large paddle and asks "see the bat?"

Hey folks, Ames is just north of Des Moines. Just south and east of Des Moines is a little town called Knoxville. Those of you in the loop with 410 cid sprint cars probably know it best for the Knoxville Nationals they have every year. One thing I would highly recommend is going to the Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum at the track. I realize it is just a little off the beaten path, but I have been there and it is really a nice place.

register and participate in the tour (long hauler unncessary)
sign up Sat., 7 June, to Tues., 10 June, at the PEAK display
participate in the Ames, IA, Air Ride/Year One Autocross
make a minimum of 2 runs
participate in the PEAK Perf challenge in Cedar Falls, IA
track opens at 9 am
scheduled runs from 10 am to 2 pm
minimum of 2 runs
the most consistent in time between each run in the autocross and the drag strip will be the winner

grand prize $500
2nd place $300
3rd place $200
