Can't tell you anything about the tom tom, but my Garmin has been great, it's the mid range model, but it does everything I want it to do, and it's great if you're in a strange city, you can find locations by categorys (food, entertainment, gas, etc etc) or enter the address if you know it

            Re: tom tom/ gps

if you are looking for the basics of GPS that you can put in a location and go, almost any GPS (name brand or not) will fit the bill.

Most GPS's will also track your mileage and speed for you (that way you can see just how accurate your speedo is).

              Re: tom tom/ gps

A buddy of mine got a Tom Tom one recently and it works just as well as a higher end Tom Tom I have. For less then $150 it's a deal.

I have the magellan entry model and it works great.
