get a rental car with walk away insurance, treat it like the dirty whore it is, and then walk away, dont look back ... just ... walk away -
If you plan to collect all the posters, bring a couple cardboard tubes to roll/stuff them in so they stay nice. Then when you get home, seal them and chuck them in the poster tube pile, to be opened in the year 2525 (if man is still alive).
X3 on the cooling system. And any oddball spare parts that aren't common. If you have space issues, remember it's WAY easier to locate/borrow tools than it is to find the oddball parts you will need.
I start researching hotels the week they announce the venues. Basically focused on a good value in a good neighborhood.Leave a comment:

the 4 to 500 mile ride is a great idea.Originally posted by corvettedad View PostI agree on all the above, although except for my first introduction to HRPT I've yet to take my actual spin the tires hot rod , but after three long hauls first and foremost start planning NOW! And take some shake down runs like a 4 to six hour round trip if I would've had at least one more week for a little shake down my Camaro would've made it this year. And yes sunscreen and beer.
Am I the only one who cannot do traditional air cleaners just plopped on top of the carb?
real tragedy waiting to happen.
A complicated suggestion is to remote mount an air box, sure path from outside source.
I am east coast, and it is a pig..but just suggesting. (I have not had a happy old v8 ever on long trips.)Leave a comment:

that will work just fine....we go through two cases of water and also have fun watching everyone not get hammered.Originally posted by 1972Behemoth View PostIs it ok if we bring Dr.Pepper, since i dont drink? Some of these folks would need a tanker truck to carry enough at one time. Although I do love that "built in box" that some of you haveOriginally posted by CaminoKid View PostUnless you have a "box" built for beer.Leave a comment:

Of my 8 long hauls, most years my test drive is leaving for the Tour. This year the Camino didn't have a motor in it, the Saturday before . . . test drive was to Dallas.
I say, go and have fun. Don't let anything stress you out. Some of the best times I have had are when I (or a friend) was broke down. It is also when I have met some of the nicest people.
I went one year without making any hotel reservations. Ended up getting 3 free nights from someone who had extra rooms.
Everyday there are ups and downs . . . DTB just rides the tops of the waves. Doesn't everyone do that on the Power Tour?
Oh yeah, and bring beer ! DTBLeave a comment:

I had so many parts and tools that it looked like the 57 had been lowered. Sad to say I used both tools and parts. I will need to do better next time. The car had only 1000 miles on it when we left and now has over 4000 so the HRPT was our shake down cruise.Leave a comment:

A bring a car that is most certainly capable of spinning the tires........ But yet, she still refuses to participate in the PT without something extreme happening. Damn women!!!Originally posted by cstmwgn View PostDon't bring a pile that won't spin the tires - most everything else can be dealt with on tour
I do agree with the cooling system.... Jade does run hot, but normally when she's sittting in traffic, not moving for an hour or so.Last edited by Bucky67; June 28, 2013, 05:58 AM.Leave a comment:

Agree on the cooling system!!
I'm going to take a different approach next time........ No Tools, no parts, no spare tire, take one extra quart of oil, leaves more room for important stuff.......
Have not open my tool box in two years, spare tire was actually flat this year, I did add one quart of oil, trunk was full of stuff on the way home.......
Sun Screen..... There's a good idea!! Wish I would have thought of that one!!Leave a comment:

....Does that mean we can't go anymore??
