  • We are traveling US 6 across Ohio and Indiana, through the Amish country on Wednesday. Nothing against Michigan, it was a great drive through there year before last. Thursday, we are running US 6 across Illinois, most of the day.

No offense taken, we have a beautiful state here, I just have some concern about driving that part of I-94. There are alternatives but it would add too much time to the already 325 mile day. That's one of the routes I was looking at. Also a little north is 20 that take you through some nice small towns, Angola,LaGrange, and a little detours will take you through Shipsawana, Middlebury I like the idea of doing one of those routes, I know I would be missing lunch at Lane, Oh Well!

      • larry g, we are not familar with northern Ohio or Indiana. My wife wants to travel through the Amish country. Would you recomend running highway 20 instead of highway 6? We want to stay off the interstates and see the country. Thanks.........

20 would be the better route IMOP, with the towns I mentions but I haven't been through them in awhile. In my younger days the family did some bicycle tours (Amish Land and Lakes) in the area. I remember LaGrange being nice, with a nice courthouse in the center of town. Shipsawana (a little detour north off 20) is Amish all the way, though it maybe a bit touristy. Middlebury is where a lot of the motorhome industry is. Not sure about the towns along 6 but would think they would be interesting also.

            • For those of you considering taking US-20 to Crown Point, consider taking OH-2 out of Norwalk. It will take you through the Sandusky Bay near Cedar Point and is a pretty decent drive, some cool roadside sights, fireworks, and easily connects to US-20. It's actually how I drive to Detroit from Cleveland. I've never seen much traffic. Check the link. http://goo.gl/maps/pmk0h That's how I'd do it...at least the first part. Not sure if I'd do interstate through Indiana as it is pretty uneventful...

Here is a small part of what OH-2 looks like:

              • From what I'm reading there are lots of different ways folks are going to run. Are we all going to try to stay together or will it be a see you when we get there? I don't care for interstate driving but I know you have to sometimes but I'd like to stick to as many backroads and small highways as possible.
