  • Deora Project

OK, lets see how this goes:
I'm building a driveable replica of the Dodge Deora show truck. Not the Chip Foose Deora II, but the original Deora conceived by Harry Bentley Bradley, and built by Mike and Larry Alexander (The A Brothers).

Mine has been in the works for around three years now, being constructed on a part-time basis in my little one-car garage up here on the Cold Lake, Alberta (Canada) Airforce base.

It's been a real challenge to put this vehicle together as I don't have a catalogue to order parts out of (as there's only ONE real Deora), and I can't exactly sidle on up beside the real version to grab measurements. Although that would be TOO awesome to be able to do so! Therefore, I extrapolate information from whatever I can lay my greedy mitts on, be it plastic models, original artwork, or vintage photographs.

So, if you're interested, I have an on-going journal to view at www.hotrodders.com. Take a peek, and try not to laugh too much at my efforts, as amateurish as they are! I'll also endeavor to carry this activity over onto this website, depending on interest level.

    Wow...

So it's damn November again... cold and planning time... what is your biggest project for it this winter?

How many winters has it been?

Did you find a way to protect it from the Snow this winter?

I'm VERY impressed... checked out every picture on every page... I love tin work.. and that's about the ultimate project for a hobbiest.

It's been two long, torturous winters already!! But, at least there's no snow here...yet!!
This winter, I'm hoping to get it somewhat put together, as it's staying in the garage. I've got the frame completely finished now, the engine actually bolted in and I'm finishing the transmission crossmember. After that is the steering, followed by the master cylinder and brake pedal. Then the floor pans, wheelhouses, and seats. Firewall, then roof, then moking up the front fascia. After all that, the exterior tin goes on.
This is taking me a lot longer than I'd originally anticipated!!

I find metal fabrication interesting... not very good at it... but that is one of the reasons it fascinates me...

This project is just freaking HUGE... but so to are the rewards.... I'm really looking forward to you driving this thing.. should be a Hoot...

I had the original Hot Wheels of it. I think. I would know for sure if I saw a pic of one.

                    Re: Deora Project

In my case, given the avaliability of parts in this area, I really couldn't help myself but to attempt this project.
The frustrating part is having the local climate so perfectly suitable to the preservation of old cars.

You really should read everything on Rob's site about the project. Rob has more Deora knowledge and documentation than just about anyone (I should know, he sends me everything he gets ... LOL) The dimensions will be spot on to the original. The picture shown was early on in the process and was posed just so he could get a feel for the final look.

I can hardly wait till it's on the road. A massive project by anyones standards but Rob's the guy to get it done !!
