Here's a picture of the returns,
I had the same valves between the tanks and pump, just natual gas valves.
All the Earls type valves I looked at had very small opening inside the valves.
I figures with little to no pressure, they wouldn't leak and they never did.
I am putting a 3 way valve on my return this time just to remove one valve.
With the 4 valves two had yellow and two had red handles, which made it even easier to not mix it up.
