Gallery: A BangShifty Tour Of The GM Heritage Collection By DRD Photo

(Photos by DRD Photography) – When our man Dom Damato said that he was going to Autorama this year and that he’d love to get a look at the GM Heritage Collection while he was in the area we knew what we had to do. Because the Heritage Collection is not open to the public, you need to get permission and enter and get access to actually spend time in there. Thanks to some friends “on the inside” at GM we were able to get Dom in there. This is a gallery of the most BangShifty cool stuff that he shot while checking out the massive, breathtaking facility.

The stuff we dig most in this gallery are the concepts and special one off cars the company has built over the years as either design experiments or far out concepts. There’s some stuff that we never even knew existed like the Cimarron concept and the 1988 Cadillac Voyage concept which was clearly the first design model for the last generation B-Body style Cadillacs that were built from 1991-1996. You’ll stare like we did at the twin turbo TPI engine, the giant 707ci Caddy mill, the twin turbo Olds Can-Am engine, and a host of other awesome sights in this gallery.

Whether you are a fan of GM or not, you should check this gallery out because the Heritage Collection is like a 3D historical study on American automotive history. Even this collection of about 100 photos does a great job displaying that. You’ll see everything from Curved Dash Oldsmobiles to fuel cell powered concepts in here and each of these cars has a place in the history of both GM and cars in general. Look past the badges if you have to and really enjoy the history that’s sitting on the pages in front of you.

Big thanks to Dom Damato for shooting and sharing these photos. CLICK HERE TO VISIT AND LIKE HIS FACEBOOK PAGE

Good thing GM has some heritage stored away to remember the good ole days … seeing as how at present they’ve got absolutely nothing what so ever to be proud of . Bailouts – Burn Downs Cars that’ll kill you – Rebadged Korean junk – Lots full of unsold stock – Denials and Blame Shifting . Thats the GM of the 2000’s

Makes one so very glad we bailed them out. Losing some $10 billion in the process !

Man, the cars are amazing and some flat out bazaar. Seeing the GNX reminded me of how my G-body dash does not look. I could spend all day in there(can I). The Manta Ray ZL-1 was incredible, it reminds me of the Mako Shark, that was the car I wanted when I was a kid. It is so easy to sit and shake our key boards at everything we hate, but life is short (I should know), get mature, move on.

the g-body stuff, glad that is in there. I owned a genuine 1984, the following years never caught up to the real H.O. and tiny 14 inch wheels.

I am still figuring out what the mystery motor is.. looks like head and block are all one piece, cannot say for sure.
    cool collection of photos.

As a former employee of GM, a certified “gearhead,” and one of those lucky enough to view the Heritage Collection, all I have to say is WOW! It is still a great collection and those lucky enough to view it have definitely been privy to potentially the greatest collection of historic vehicles in one location; at least of the American variety.

Regardless of all the negativity surrounding GM, it is still one of the greatest companies in the world that employs over 200,000 people and year after year it is in contention for being the largest automotive manufacturer in the world. Obviously there is still something alright with them and there are many of their cars that I would purchase with confidence as I have purchased those that are currently in my fleet. I hope at some point I can look at an automotive-themed message board where folks are talking trash about brand loyalty and not how they wish an American Icon should have been abandoned in their time of need. Enjoy a post with positive vibes without littering it with the same adage of negativity prevalent since the filing of bankruptcy.

Thank You for sharing all these wonderful pictures and keep up the good work!

Well stated Nitrofueled. I couldn’t agree more. I’m tired of hearing crap about bailouts. Those same people would berate the government if we went the way of the Brittish car industry. They are also the same people who say GM sucks while they replace their SBC in their street rod with a LSX. Just be happy that the greatest country on earth still manufactures cars, cars BTW that compete with the best the world has to offer. Get over it. I own a 74′ AMC Matador coupe, the sad AMC story would have been repeated at GM and Chrysler without the gov’t’s help, less jobs for Americans, less variety for buyers, get over the bashing and enjoy some great pictures.
