Screaming Mimis: Check Out The All Rotary Powered Video From Malta’s Hal-Far Raceway

You know, we all have goals. I have been to over 150 drag strips both living and dead around the USA and Canada but there are hundreds more I ma dying to see and one of them is Hal-Far Raceway on the island of Malta. This drag strip is awesome because (1) it is highly active and (2) some really, really neat stuff competes there. We have seen insanely fast big rigs and now we’re showing you a video that’s all rotary engine powered.

Some people like to talk smack on rotary engines but they are amazingly powerful given their compact size and light weight. With nitrous, booth, or both they can do some incredible things. They are temperamental, though and they do operate in a pretty narrow range of obscenely high RPM with regard to making maximum horsepower and torque. Often times these rotary cars are at the mercy of the driver. If someone short shifts a big block a little, it’ll slow down but if you miss it with one of these things, you may as well be shutting it off.

This being said, when you see someone actually get it right and rip the gears while keeping the engine way up on RPM, it is a thing of beauty! There are some full 8-second passes here, some 9-second stuff, some big tire and some small tire action as well.

We talk about the drag racing scene in the USA all the time but even internationally things are hauling the mail. If you love the sound of screaming rotary engines, crank the speakers to 11 and press play!
