BangShift Exclusive A 13-Original Mile 1987 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 Emerges

BangShift Exclusive A 13-Original Mile 1987 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 Emerges

We were recently tipped off to what may be the lowest mileage Third-Gen Firebird on Earth by our pal Berserko Bob. The car was bought brand new with the intention of being turned into an NHRA Super Stock racer, but that never happened. A lot of stuff never happened, actually. The car was never driven, it only has 13 miles on it, the plastic was never taken from the seats, the paper floor mats were never removed, the car never saw rain or any elements and has lived in a heated/cooled garage for 25 years and every piece of factory shipping and build documentation is present as well.

Not just is the car low mileage, it is also low option. Since “radio delete” was not a box available to be checked, the buyer of this car opted for an AM only radio! You can bet your bottom dollar that there are very few 1987 Firebirds period running around with an AM only radio. Let alone those with the L98 350, which made an appearance for the first time in Firebirds and Camaros in 1987. There is no A/C, the car has crank windows, etc. They made about 2300 Formuals with the 350 engine in 1987, so this is a rare bird in any sense.

As you’ll see in the photos the original Gatorback tires are still in showroom condition without even a hint of dry rot. Guys are practically selling their kids up the river to score them these days, so as small a detail as that is, it means something.

Well, since that race car project never happened a couple decades ago and the car has literally never been driven, the owner is looking to sell. Since he’s phobic of computers, Berserko is going to help him get the word out about the car. we have no idea what the asking price is, so don’t fill up our e-mail box asking that question.

And, it’s a great color too.

My former boss bought a new GNX, picked it up with his tow truck, put it on jack stands in his garage with 6 miles on it. I wonder if it’s still there.

If I could score that I’d drive it every day and not worry about racking up the miles or using up the unobtanium tires.

You have to see this car in person to realize that’s it’s a time capsule. Yea it’s in So. Florida.

Just like the GNX, it’s still only worth what it cost new; $15-$18K for the Buick. This fabulous car is only worth $10-$15K. If not, why hasn’t it been to Barrett/Jackson or Mecum’s?

No AC and standard door panels / Interior. They offered better a more upgraded interior in 1987.

Mine has upgraded seating, door panels and AC, but it doesnt have 13 miles on it and Im actually restoring it as we speak.

Bought car for $16,000 new in 1987, with upgraded interior, AM/FM Tape Cassette and AC.
