BangShift Garage Spotlight: A Bitchin Blue Big Block 1969 Nova Super Sport We Wish We Had

BangShift Garage Spotlight: A Bitchin Blue Big Block 1969 Nova Super Sport We Wish We Had

It’s BangShift Garage Spotlight time, and this week we chose my69rat and his amazing big-block, 4-speed, 1969 Nova SS. He’s kind of a lurker on the BangShift.com forums, but that didn’t stop him from putting together a killer BangShift garage that features more than 15 great photos of his ride. With a 396, M-22, and 12-bolt posi with 3.73 gears, this little Nova flies, and yet it’s still a matching numbers car! In fact, he’s met every owner since new and gotten all the dirt on it’s history. Don’t forget to create your own BangShift Garage and you could end up right here on the front page of BangShift as well.

Purchased in 1998, the 1969 Nova has never been restored. It does have a repaint, and some freshening, but never a full restoration. When my69rat purchased the car, he took the time to track down all previous owners to verify that the car was what he thought. It was. A matching numbers 375 horse 396, backed by an M-22 4-speed, and 12 bolt Posi make this thing a riot to drive. We dig the dog dish hubcaps on steelies, and the Lemans blue happens to be a BangShift favorite since our own ’69 Camaro wears the same color. Other than new radials, the suspension and drivetrain are stock, although he did keep the traction bars on it that were installed in 1971. That’s okay, we approve.

To check out all the photos and information on my69rat, then click here to visit the garage.

Rat pulled the engine and trans, and did a rebuild on them, but they are still the original parts from the car. We’re glad to see that even though it’s a high value numbers matching car, he’s out driving it just like we would. Okay, we would be doing burnouts in it, but you know what we mean.

Other than the carpet and front seat covers, the interior is all original.

What a great car! You should be very proud of your efforts! Maybe 75 Duster will come by and buff your floor for you with his buffer!!LOL!

Thank you, We are very proud of the Nova. I would not want 75 Duster to wear out his buffer.

my69rat, I complimented you on your ’69 Nova and your garage floor and you turned me into a butt of a joke. That is pretty low in my book.

        1. my69rat

Hey, wait just a minute 75Duster JUST what are you talking about?
I am sorry if you feel you were turned into a butt of a joke by your compliment. You asked me if I had to run a buffer on my garage floor and I told you no I just wash it with soap and water. John Brewer said maybe 75Duster could come by and buff my floor with your buffer and I said I wouldnt want you to wear out your buffer. Now can you tell me just what was so low or what made you mad about any of that. I appreciate all compliments from anyone and I sure as hell would not want to make anyone the butt of a joke. Calm down man and relax life is too short.

This is simple my69rat, just read YOUR replies about me after John Brewer egged you and YOUR ego on. Your right life is short, so why should I take crap from you or John Brewer.

    2. 75Duster

That would never happen John, I complimented my69rat on his Nova and I ASKED him a question about his garage floor. End of discussion.

75Duster I have had enough of your petty ranting over nothing. If you got mad when I said I wouldnt want you to wear out your buffer then you need help man, your a sick puppy. I said I was sorry all though I said nothing to be sorry about I take that back now. Enough said I am not going to lower myself to your level.

        1. 75Duster

With your reply to John, did you not think it offended me?
How would you feel if you were in my position?
You showed me the type of person you are and your moral character, and now you have the nerve to call me a “sick puppy”, all I did was defend myself.
You can take a compliment about your car then back stab that person.
I refuse to lower myself to your level of morals.

After seeing so many of those as back-halved drag cars it’s nice to see one unmolested.

    1. my69rat

Yeah, I remember back in the 60s they were cutting these Novas up every day to drag race. Back then no one cared about what the car was they just wanted to go fast.

Beautiful car. Novas are by far the best car GM ever produced. Hence the reason I named my daughter after them. Glad to see someone keep it clean and simple. There is a nice one driving around in a small town east of Orlando, it’s a silver 68 or 69. Young guy owns it, inherited it from his father, it’s also an all original BBC, he also pampers it, but drives it almost daily. Guys like you keep this automotive history alive! And numbers matching! Thanks!

Take it back to pure factory stock – get rid of the headers and reinstall the proper exhaust manifolds and A.I.R System. Without them, the car is worth about $3000 less in value.

    1. my69rat

Hi Lee, and thanks I do have the original exhaust manifolds but not the smog setup I might do it someday.
