BangShift Question Of The Day: What Is The Longest You’ve Waited To Fix Something?

BangShift Question Of The Day: What Is The Longest You’ve Waited To Fix Something?

So, it’s probably time to admit that there is something on Angry Grandpa that hasn’t been fixed in years. You might remember that while I was working the PRI Show back in 2017, there was an incident with our 2006 Chrysler 300C that saw the oil pressure sender crack wide open and somehow destroy the electrical connector housings for the oil pressure sending unit and the oil temperature sending unit. This required me to wire in new connectors, which worked well, but it looks like the oil pressure sender I utilized doesn’t play nicely with the computer in the 300C. Once the power gets cycled, the oil pressure sender trips a code. If you clear the code and leave the power on, the code is clear and the oil pressure reads normally. Cycle power, and it’s our current best guess that the computer isn’t happy with the response time of the sender’s signal and throws a code. The gauge functions, but the check engine lights has pretty much stayed on since. One of these days I’ll address it. But it’s not a rush project.

Some repairs need to be done ASAP. Others might never need to be addressed. Over my childhood, we had the Celica with mis-matched taillights, the Impala that needed raw fuel down the carb to even attempt to start up, and who can forget the Mirada’s 20-minute morning warmup routine just to get the cats hot enough to flow? Sometimes you’re forced to fix things, other times, you just ignore it and wait until something breaks. How long have you ignored an issue for? We want to know!

Not drivetrain related, but I bought the PS door popper for the f250 over 4 years ago and just put it in this weekend. Been opening that door, for the misses, with a key all that time. Now I need to fix the broken exhaust manifold bolts that ironically were purchased at the same time.

30 yrs & counting… it’s sitting outside just waiting. Have dragged it across over a dozen states & 4 homes. Haven’t given up yet. My health is kind of in the way, but it may still happen.
