Bonneville Would You Rather: 228mph Freightliner or 400mph Streamliner?

Bonneville Would You Rather: 228mph Freightliner or 400mph Streamliner?

Speed week is…next week! So here’s bit of a personality test for you out there. Would you rather drive a 228mph Freightliner truck or a 400mph streamliner that’s powered by a 4,000hp blown nitro burning hemi? Oh we should mention that the truck is powered by a 2,179ci MTU 16-cylinder diesel engine.

This is a very interesting pairing of vehicles that illustrate the disparate nature of land speed racing, especially on the salt. We have told you about all of the different stuff that Speed Week has to offer but this really is both ends of the rainbow.

The rig is the famed Joint Venture which has been revamped this year and the truck is a real sight to behold. Even the roll cage is beyond anything we have ever seen before. CNC machines plates welded together make up parts of the structure as the massive engine fills the rear portion of the truck. Huge, unwieldy, and un-aerodynamic it defines the term bunt force trauma on the salt.

The streamliner is Flashpoint which is a nitro hemi powered car that utilizes only one engine to make its speed. This thing has flirted with 400mph before and it is packed with cool technology and it makes the noises of the gods. Unlike the truck, the diver is packed in like a sardine before he’s packed completely into the seat and set loose on the salt.

Insanity!

NOW TELL US WHICH ONE YOU WANT TO DRIVE AND WHY?

Consider the two vehicles in this photo and then pick the one you’d want to drive!

Man! – I’d even watch a cyclist at Bonneville but sadly the nearest I’ll ever get to the salt is putting some on my dinner….
