BangShift Daily Tune Up: Chevy Shutdown – The Jaguars (Year Unknown)

BangShift Daily Tune Up: Chevy Shutdown – The Jaguars (Year Unknown)

Here a fun little obscure song from the 1960s that sounds like a mash up of a couple different well known car songs. Overall the Jaguars song Chevy Shut Down sounds like the Beach Boys song Shut Down but there are recognizable elements of other popular 1960s surf and car songs sprinkled in for good measure. Frankly, we’re not sure if this song was made back then or more recently by a retro-style surf band. Either way we dig it because it is about cars and has the famous California sound we dig so much.

The song talks about 409s, camshafts, drag racing, and hot rods. That’s pretty much our ideal wheelhouse. No rocket science here, no deep thought required, just some good old 1960s sounding rock and roll about hot rods and the drag strip. Enjoy at your own risk! Oh, and the video is all footage from the awesome and ancient NHRA film, “Innovation in Action” with footage taken from the NHRA Nationals in the late 1950s/very early 1960s. The video is just as cool as the song!

    Kewl,
That’s footage of the 1959 NHRA Nationals in Detroit, MI. I didn’t know many people knew of “Innovation in Action” because it’s hard to find a copy (I know) that follows the journey of the Drag Masters team from CA to MI via way of OK..!

Sorry for the mistake but the film is called Ingenuity in Action. Wally Parks was very proud of the fact that the Nationals where held in Detroit & wanted it documented somehow.
