BangShift Daily Tune Up: Thou Shalt Drag – The Surfites (2007)

Here’s a note to recording artists everywhere. If you want your work to be showcased to the worldwide readership of el BangShift-arino, all you need to do is to created a bitchin’ surf instrumental and set it to vintage drag racing footage. This is a winning formula even if your music is total crap. The good news for you and the Surfites is that their music is the furthest thing from crap, in fact it is really good.

This tune called, “Thou Shalt Drag” has a very Dick Dale feeling to it with the guitar riffs and the video footage appears to have been taken at the Bakersfield March Meet in the early 1960s. You’ll see Ivo and many other heros of the day along with some pretty funny captions highlighting the action. The music is a perfect accompaniment to the video. The marriage of that 1960s surf sound and the giants that built today’s drag racing world is perfect.

Was it an accident we highlighted a twin engine dragster in the lead photo of this tune up? Hell no it wasn’t. You know us far better than that!
