Ebay Find: The 1968 Chevrolet Corvette That Don Yenko Raced At The 24 Hours Of Daytona!

Don Yenko and Chevrolets that could haul the mail just go hand-in-hand. You know cars like the Super Camaros (the actual “Yenko Camaros”), the Deuce Novas, and the Stinger Corvairs and Stinger II Vegas. Lesser known are cars like the 1981 Turbo Z Camaros and the two, possibly three Stormer Camaros, one of which was Don’s personal racer. But Yenko’s racing exploits didn’t end once the Stinger II’s run ended in 1973. In 1978 he purchased this car, an original 435 horsepower 427-powered 1968 Corvette from it’s second owner, Frank Brown, and took it to the 1980 24 Hours of Daytona with Kim Mason as the #16 entry. It is a long ways away from it’s original British Racing Green and tan interior days, having been converted to full race duty in 1970, but ever since then the Corvette has been a brutal-looking road-racing monster that has been going for decades.

Currently sitting on eBay for a thrifty $95,000 bid, the Corvette comes with two logbooks and two notebooks filled to the brim of information that the drivers and teams accumulated between the Vette’s conversion and the 1980s. There are historical photographs, tuning notes, and plenty more…enough to make any collector’s day. But that would be doing this Corvette a sincere disservice. The Corvette has been gorgeously kept, looks amazing in race livery with the Goodyear slicks and sewer-sized side pipes, and without question still barks with authority. The vintage circuit is calling, and the car is not too far from street-legal. One way or another, keep this monster alive and screaming.
