Sleeper Concept: The LSJ-Swapped Chevrolet Cavalier

Sleeper Concept: The LSJ-Swapped Chevrolet Cavalier

LS-swap the Cavalier. Hmm…sounds like a worthy challenge, doesn’t it? We’re all about RWD swaps at BangShift, and a V8 Cavalier would be a kick in the ass, no doubt. But here’s a thought, and bear with me: the ultimate sleeper build would be a ragged, peeling-paint 2000s era Cavalier, wouldn’t it? You can find them on Craigslist for a couple hundred bucks, and that’s if you aren’t trying. What would it take to keep the ruse going? The 3.8 supercharged V6 comes to mind, but we are talking professional-level street sweeper…anybody who is worth their salt will hear the V6 and call shenanigans.

We found this clip and we like the idea. The engine is the LSJ: the 2.0L, supercharged four that was found in the Cobalt SS, Saturn Ion Red Line, and in a slightly modified form, was one of the available engines for the Ariel Atom. It makes power…205 horses at the worst, 300 with some tuning, and with a little bit of spray, who knows? We’ve seen videos where they are putting down 470+ horses at the tire, but at idle, it sounds like any other Cavalier we’ve heard of. Maybe a bit smoother, but nothing really out of place.

How cheap could you duplicate this for, if you stayed away from pretty paint? Better question: how much money do you think you could make with one?

This is pretty cool, but i’m thinking that it would be a way easier / cheaper project if you swapped the LSJ into a 4-door cobalt of similar year to the engine’s donor car. Would make a lot of the wiring plug/play. Plus, 4-door cobalts get bonus sleeper-points for ageing very poorly..
