This 468-cubic-inch Chevrolet Cavalier Is A High-School Hot Rod Sketch Come To Life!

The moment I laid eyes on this Chevrolet Cavalier, I had a flashback: I was sitting in Ms. Jameson’s math class, first thing in the morning, bored out of my skull. In lieu of revisiting the multiplication tables for the umpteenth time, I broke out a notebook and a pencil and started to sketch. I didn’t have a goal at first, but instead threw a few lines down and figured I’d work with whatever I saw next. Unfortunately that morning, I wound up starting with a second-gen Cavalier. I don’t mind the first gen cars: they might have been 1980s cracker boxes, but at least they were honest about it, and the later cars were actually kind of handsome. The second gen Cavis, however, looked like the design team tried too hard then ran out of a budget, so they used Little Tykes plastic wherever they could. But tubbed, sitting an eighth-inch off of the ground, with a massive supercharged mill sitting out of the hood…yeah, that could make someone forgive a lot of sins.

Well, it’s not pancaked to the ground and if it is tubbed, they don’t show like the old Pro Street look did, but if there was ever a car that closely represented one of my junior-high notebook drawings, here you go: a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, stuffed full with 468 cubic inches of big-block Chevrolet, complete with dual quads and a ratchet shifter connected to the Powerglide trans. Woof…imagine drilling the pedal for all that it’s worth the first time! If you don’t spin a perfect circle without trying, you did everything wrong. Sure, most of the Cavalier remains, but for once, we wouldn’t mind. We’d be out on a highway somewhere trying to snap the speedometer as quick as we could…
