Santa’s Dragging Tail: This 1949 Mercury Is The Real Sled For The North Pole!

Santa’s Dragging Tail: This 1949 Mercury Is The Real Sled For The North Pole!

One sleigh and eight reindeer that can fly…or, if you listen to the song, nine, if you count the one that has a medical condition pertaining to the nose. Right…not buying that for a second. The jolly old man in the frigid north has a veritable army of workers cranking out toys for good boys and girls, a wife who has to be one of the most loving and supportive women around, and you’re telling me he travels the world in one night like it’s 1733? Get real. Santa is a large man with a long white beard and a style all of his own who everybody seems to love. I know two dudes from Texas who can claim the same thing. But I think that Santa and ZZ Top have one thing in common: hot rods.

Santa is going to have old-school tastes, right? And it stands to reason that he’ll need a little more room in the trunk for that sack of toys than what a ’32 Ford can crate around, so unless Lohnes knows a guy who knows a guy who knows that the Jolly Old Elf is actually driving an old stakebed with a blown Hemi swap around, I’ll say that this 1949 Mercury sled is the ride of Santa. It’s red…it’s got to be red. Forget reindeer, there’s plenty of horses under the hood. It’s got style that can withstand the test of time and an interior that will be the perfect place to sit as he travels the world over.

Move aside, Rudolph.

Looks like it was built on a chevelle frame. As nice as this car is, and it is plenty nice, I just don’t understand why they didn’t shorten the front bumper and have somebody build a nice exhaust system. Those tail pipes are hideous.
